I really wish there would be a lot more restaurants that would put warning labels on meals that have coriander/cilantro in them.
I got caught multiple times before and now I make sure to tell not to put any of that goddam plant every time I want to eat some mexican, indian or thai food.

a lot of people use coriander and cilantro interchangeably even though many consider coriander to be the seeds.

English speakers do. The seeds are coriander seeds. Cilantro is a Spanish word.

They say it's a genetic thing, but when I was a kid, it tasted like soap to me, but as I started working as a cook and having to taste things all the time, including things with cilantro, the soap taste went away and I only taste like a floral flavor I can't really describe, which is apparently what it's supposed to taste like.

That's what I meant. Seeds and leaves are different things. Do bongs call the leaves "coriander?"

Depends on the country, Americans separate the two but I'm not aware of anyone else doing that. Unfortunately it can lead to some confusion where people use the wrong part of the plant because they assume cilantro and coriander are two different things.
Coriander seed on home fries is beyond based for anyone who hasn't tried it.

>i never knew what was happening when i just randomly tasted and smelled soap

Same thing happened to me and I agree with OP about cilantro warnings.

A few years back, my buddy and I stopped by a new Mexican restaurant (owned by Arabs and staffed by Blacks, but whatever) and I ordered a wet burrito.

When it arrived, I happily dug in and was dismayed by an overwhelming taste of soap!

My buddy saw the look on my face and asked me what I was doing as I felt around under the plate for soapy water, thinking it had come out of the dishwasher without being rinsed and when I told him my burrito tasted like soap, he said I had the “soapy cilantro” gene that made cilantro taste like soap to me.

I choked down the burrito as the description on menu did say cilantro so I guess it was kinda my fault but I’ve never been back since.

21% of east Asians, 17% of people of European ancestry and 14% of people of African descent say they dislike the stuff, according to a paper published this year in the journal Flavour4. By contrast, 3–7% of south Asians, Latin Americans and Middle Eastern subjects disapproved of the herb, which is more common in their native cuisines.

Setting aside hypothetical hopes of a biological fix, those who hate coriander have two options: avoid or adulterate. Julia Child took the former option: in 2002, she told the interviewer Larry King that she never ordered dishes with coriander: “I would pick it out if I saw it and throw it on the floor.”

That's surprising considering cilantro may have originated from Southern Europe and the Middle East, maybe the gene developed later
