Roast(ie) beef was, but it's become way overseasoned and a Frankenstein of meat glued shit over the last decade or so. There are some good poultry cuts and the all-American honey ham is usually good.

>The pronunciation "gabagool" has been used by Italian Americans in the New York City area and elsewhere in the Northeast, based on the pronunciation of "capicola"
HOW?

>> No.16623204

Fuggediboudit.

>> No.16623229

>>16623192
For what it's worth, my family is degenerate Italian Americans 2+ generations in the NYC area and they always pronounced it capicol'-- there's a tendency to drop the last vowel (mozzarell', parmigian') but I've never heard the g thing.

>> No.16623292

>>16623154
i only used the word unironically because of course saying gabagool is fun, it is half the reason to have it
but it is not better than the usual italian meats

>> No.16623309

>>16623192
new york immigrants came in larger numbers from southern Italy because it was the poorer part of the country, italian is the formal language spoken all over the country but different regions have their own local languages that developed before italy was unified. most of the south spoke Neapolitan which often don't have full pronunciation of a whole italian word as the version of the neapolitan word, like this anon said >>16623229
not to say that some northern italy languages don't cut off their words ever.
i don't know about sicilians but it is even more different than standard italian

Naples is the blanda part of Italy. Lots of Moorish and Arab blood in them. They also were the Mafia. They've been that way for 800 years, and they speak in a garbled mess. It's similar to Cockney. They talk funny so the cops won't understand them. Cs become Gs. Ps become Bs. The end vowels get dropped. Sometimes the end of the word goes to the begining (they same "abeetz" intead of "pizza".) It's almost like Spurdo. Gabish?
