Looking for a whiskey to give myself for a birthday. Did anyone here tried this one? Is it any better than unknown year version, and worth 215 bucks?

>> No.16592266

Stay away from japanese whisky. Normies have inflates the demand and prices are absurd for the quality you're getting. You could easily get a bottle you'll enjoy just as much (if not more) at half the price if you go bourbon or scotch.

>215 bucks?
What the fuck?
It isn't worth that much anon it is a $50 whisky. I do enjoy it but hard to justify the price people ask for it nowadays. Hell I found it for $100 but even then it isn't really worth it.

I have tasted Hibiki Japanese harmony and liked it a lot (I even purchased it for a second time), and since that I was interested in more mature weeb whiskey. If the price is the only disadvantage, fuck it, it's a birthday for a sake and 215$ isn't that much. But if I won't feel the difference between usual Yamazaki and 12 years one, or if Yamazakis are shit in general, please, make me aware of it.

I had a drink at a bar quite a while ago, but this one is much better.

Yamazaki 12 is great but I'd suggest you to pick up 4 scotch whiskies instead. It will give you much more enjoyment

>> No.16592874

Yamazaki especially, but Japanese whiskey has gone fucking bananas. Nikka used to have solid offerings, now Coffey and from the barrel are priced at top shelf levels, and Miyagikyo is unobtainable.

I've wanted to try Hibiki for a while, I just haven't for whatever reason. The real underrated Japanese alcohol is the Roku gin, very savory, very weird gin. Amazing in negronis or anything that would suffer from overly floral gin. Makes a strange martini, but it's cheap and I had fun drinking it. Then there's the Suntory yellow labelled stuff I forget the name of that's made for highballs and sells for 50 a bottle or something insane.

it's like $40 a bottle in Japan
your better off just booking a holiday there when the borders are open and bringing back 2-3 bottles.
works out much cheaper, especially with how cheap flights to Japan used to be.

It goes for $450 AUD here. It's an increasingly rare, inflated as fuck whisky.

>worth 215 bucks?
To answer OP, no, you'll find value tends to be inversely proportional to Jim Murray's score.

gay and stupid. buy a bottle of arbeg 10 instead and use the savings to buy yourself a lap dance

Suntory is a relatively cheap Japanese Whisky that is also fucking amazingly smooth and tasty I'd try that first to get a feel for taste and quality before you move onto stuff more expensive.

How does one get into whiskey?
I always wanted to enjoy a good bourbon but the taste of it just makes me gag

>> No.16599872

>>16599867
Depends omyour taste really Bourbon is usually high in oak flavor. You have totry out diferent Whiskys to find your taste. As a beginner you should try out some Scotch preferbly Sherry cask ones for a start and then progress from there.

my main problem is the taste of alchohol in general
is it possible to grow into liking alchohol, like focussing on different aspects of a drink? Or do I just need to drink more frequently

>> No.16599903

>>16599897
Maybe better then to not drink at all but in case you want to try it anyway maybe start with sweet vines or sparkling vines. For me it was easy the first time i got a beer as a child i was hooked but i am German so it's in my blood.

Start with lower abv stuff like flavored whiskey and add ice. This will ease you into it. Keep in mind that you should not take gulps as if you were drinking Kool aid, sip and enjoy. Chugging hard liquor is infantile behavior you should avoid it.

In time you will learn to appreciate the alcohol as a gateway to other flavors and move on to real whisky and also lose the ice
Take your time, no rush
