Skip the morning tea and skip the breakfast too, that's going to be better for your cut than one or the other. I drink coldbrew green tea in the morning on an empty stomach and I find it doesn't aggravate my stomach as much, although your mileage my vary/

>I drink coldbrew green tea
This is the difference. Coldbrew is going to result in an extraction with way fewer tannins, so it's less severe on your digestive system. Regularly-brewed tea is going to mess with you in that regard, especially if you suddenly do 2x the amount on an empty stomach like the other anon did. An aside, you also probably get less hungry, since tea can inhibit hunger for many people.

Honestly, the results weren't bad. Flavor was slightly sweeter and rounded, less bland. Might be an economical, easy way to use up tea trimmings if you have high quality leaf you want to spice something else up with. Makes me wonder what other kinds of interesting "tea alchemy" results could be had by someone with a more balanced stash than myself.

A little of column A a little of column B
From around 2004 to before the crash in the middle of 2007 they started pressing anything they could get their hands on. This reached a peak in 2007 and a lot of crap tea got pressed that spring. But there are still some very good teas out there from those years.

You are going to need to use a fine tea. If you use whole leaves you will get a shit "espresso"
What you are doing is not new or innovative, Red Espresso (Roiboos) is a big thing and people have done conventional Tea Espresso before. The thing is, tea is not meant to extract quickly under pressure like a fine coffee ground is. You can grind the tea leaves up to get a more coffee like consistency to allow them to flash steep fast enough in an Espresso machine, but you're probably going to get a more bitter tea than you'd like unless you're using something with a low tannin count. I'm also not sure delicate greens like Japanese will even work, although you're obviously minded to run oolongs which can handle the heat.

Ceylon tea is from a specific region, it's usually sold as a bulk commodity "ceylon tea" instead of specific batches and grades from different farms, it used to be used a lot in english blend style teas but it's being replaced in recent years with cheaper African teas.
It's not much cheaper but you can try it from these guys, i think you can buy from them without import taxes if you are euro.

/tea/bros, why do so few people opt to brew their gong fu tea in bulk?
Why brew a single cup at a time when you could spend 5-10 minutes to pour every steep into some vessel, like a huge flask, to keep it warm and then drinking from that for hours? Is the meme of "the flavor changes after each steep" really that profound? I personally have not ever noticed it. (at least from the second steep onwards, when the leaves actually open up)

I only ask this because it has become really inconvenient for me to brew, pour and drink 100ml of tea at a time, while I'm engaged in activities at my desktop. The cup's either still undrinkably hot or gone cold by the time I get to it.

Yes, that's most of the point of gongfu when it comes to the tea itself. The changes can be subtle depending on the tea, but I find it worthwhile. There could be reasons you might not notice it depending on how you brew, but I don't know. I might suggest that you try a comparison tasting, like saving the first 1 or 2 brews then comparing them to a late brew.

Since its your first time i would suggest adding little bit by little bit and tasting it as you go. You can also buy suutei tsai powders and bags but they arent as good.

Commenting on my usage of white tea kept in a resealable polypropylene bag within my refrigerator. It has been several days since I did it, but I have noticed no degradation in flavor or aroma whatsoever. I was unsure if it may be affected since white tea is still 'active' similar to some heicha/pu'er, but it seems that, at least for short storage durations, this is not an issue. What do you recommend, and for which kind of person?
>I think you would like it
Why? What traits may be expected from these teas? I'm not well experienced with Japanese or Taiwanese teas, outside a few samples of Taiwanese oolongs. I tend to prefer lighter flavors, and dislike overpowering vegetal notes or dominant 'florality'. So, considering my tastes and the costs of Japanese and Taiwanese products, I have not yet tried really any Japanese teas, and only a few Taiwanese outside some oolong samplers. I am unsure how to interpret that market, but I would like to try them sometime to expand my horizons.

Ripe, make a bunch of it, brew it real dark, lots off caffeine, most easy on the stomach to drink a load of. You can even simmer (dont boil) like 7-10 grams in a litre of water for 10-15 minutes and then drink tha, real thick and tasty that way.

I find that Longjing needs to be brewed hotter for its flavors to come out better. I use 85C, ~4g/100 mL, first steep is about a minute. Try experimenting with parameters. The first time I had dragonwell I was underwhelmed too, but in later sessions I learned to pick out which flavors I liked in the tea and how to accentuate them with brew parameters. I think your body actually perceives the taste differently after a while once your expectations are well anchored. It went from "ugh I have to finish this expensive tea which tastes weak" to "this is my favorite tea."

But this one is now really pliable and can be pulled apart by hand when it used to be stiff and required a pick to separate. It was a really smoky ripe and now it just tastes off, kind of like menthol or something. It still smells a little bit smoky but the aroma of the wet leaves is much weaker than it used to be. Sounds like camphor, ive had some cakes that were wet at one pint with a strong camphor flavor.
Has it been really humid where you are? It does sound like a high humidity issue. Weird that that would happen. I wouldn't expect the cake being humid to drastically effect it's flavor in such a short timeframe.
Has it been getting cold lately at night where you are? The cake could have gotten cold enough to hit the dew point and then been moistened by the air.

Anyway, try a 30 second rinse of the tea before you brew it. I should be enough to deal with a lot of the off flavors.

I thought Mei Leaf prices weren't as inflated as people around here say but then I looked at the leaf to water ratio they recommend. I was looking at a few senchas and they were 4.5g to 100ml. This stuff had better be top notch quality for how much tea you actually go through. Even the high grade Japanese teas I've had myself don't use that much leaf.

you could use a preheated one to keep your tea warm perhaps. the big problem with most of enameled "tetsubins" are not stove top safe so you cant even boil water in them. they would be much more useful if they could double as a kettle.

a lid helps keep the heat in when brewing and depending on the size of infuser you want the maximum volume so the leaf can expand. a gaiwan is basically a cup with a lid and the oldest way to brew was in the gaiwan and holding the leaf beck using the lid when drinking. teapots are good if you have a densely packed nugget where the retained heat will help loosen it up faster or if its unglazed and the clay will affect the taste

Recently bough this kyusu, any tips on cleaning it?
It comes with am integrated tea strainer, but some tea leaves tend to get caught in the strainer, making the cleaning process arguably harder. Due to it being unglazed on the inside, I've refrained from using anything but water and a cloth for cleaning.
Also, somewhat new to brewing with a kyusu, any additional tips that might come in handy?

>> No.16592549

>>16592313
Is the integrated strainer a removable metal one? Or a permanently attached clay one?
Anyway don't leave wet leaves in it for 12+ hours so it doesn't get moldy. Rinse it out thoroughly after use and leave the lid off untill the inside ia fully dry. Rinsing is generally enough cleaning for regular use. If you need to do a more through cleaning because it is giving you tea off flavors/ is visibly scummy or you accidentally grew some mold in it you can look up how to "reset" yixing clay for more info.
For most deep cleaning you can put the pot in a 1:5 plain white vinegar and water solution in a pot on the stove, bring just to a boil, kill the heat and then scrub out the inside with a new toothbrush or some kind of mild scrub brush make sure the brush doesn't come with any kind of soap pr cleaning product on it, those green scrubbers can sometimes have soap powder on them.
For serious nasty cleanup do the same thing but with a 1:10 or 1:15 bleach solution, make sure it's completely scent free bleach and that it doesn't have any additives like "splash free" bleach.

>> No.16592582

>>16592549
Forgot to say wait for it to cool off enough to handle before scrubbing. Don't worry about the vinegar or bleach, it wont leave a scent once the pot is completely dry. But you really shouldn't need to do a deep cleaning like that very often, sone people are autistic about never cleaning their clay but im guessing it will get gross eventually. In my experience after using the pot for a week or two it should stop imparting any clay flavors to the tea or over muting it. Im nto really sold on the idea of further seasoning beyond that actually enhancing or improving the flavor but you mileage may vary.

not sure, I am pretty sure some of their prices are well above the Chinese market. perhaps the owner just realized that they have no real competition and started raising prices to match the rest of the western market. i get the impression a large percentage of the western puerh market is affluent (or at least likes to spend like they are) and are willing to pay the higher prices. it only takes a hand-full of whales to mess with a niche market like this.

Unfortunately flavored tea is like flavored whiskey, they always add flavoring to the cheap stuff.
