did a side by side comparison of the Curiositas and 6 Isles, big difference! 6 Isles is more flat in the nose overall where as the Benriach is full and creamy, although my bottle has been open since late November last year and mostly air since about April/May. I'd say most of the peat has wafted off, at least for the nose, still recognizable on the taste albeit more subtle than it had been.

I did end up doing an in glass blend of my 14 yr old Knob Creek SB, Glengoyne 10 and the 6 Isles. About 3-4 parts Glengoyne to 1 parts each of the others. It was quite nice if I do say so myself, so I went ahead and used the last bit of Glengoyne in the decanter and added the same amounts and let it sit for a couple days with few drops of water to dilute some of the 120 proof bourbon. The Knob Creek does stand at the front, but with the dry/fruity sherry in toe and ends with peat smoke and oak tannins, maybe even some chocolate and oranges. The nose is really big and complex. the taste is very steadfast in its transitions with a long finish of subtle spices like cinnamon, clove and anise.

what's a decent tequila/whiskey brand popular enough to find at the supermarket?

>> No.16552079

>>16551318
totally dependent of your region. in the US supermarket could have stuff you might not find in the big box stores where as UK supermarket will have stuff you'd never see in the US. assuming ur burger, decent tequila is whatever they have because its a pretty meh tier liquor overall, Cuervo Gold is a standard, but people seem to really like Reposado's lately so thats probably around as well. decent whiskey is probably going to be Evan Willaims/Elijah Craig, Woodford Reserve/Jack Daniels(stay away from flavored shit/anything under 40% abv), Jim Beam/Knob Creek, Buffalo Trace/BenchMark/Very Old Barton.

Stores have been extra jewish lately and gouging is not uncommon so double check prices before you decide on anything. if its over 10-15% mark up find something else.

>> No.16552120

>>16551318
For tequila, depends on your price point. Casamigos is very good, but overpriced. Can't go wrong with 1800 reposado or Cuervo Gold like other anon said. If you can find Espelón get the reposado. Cabo Wabo is very agave forward, and Hornitos is borderline sweet. Patrón is overrated imo.

>Try it and its like an instant punch to gut, as spicey & burning as wasabi & as tasteful as jack Daniels out a plastic bottle
what the fuck, why do normies literally have no taste in alcohol? I'm pretty sure they all buy the second cheapest stuff that isn't just clear hobo dog shit at the bottom of the shelves especially vodka & tequila then just either shoot it or throw it in some super sugary cocktail, like for literally just less than 5 dollars more you can buy vodka/whiskey/beer/gin that tastes smooth & silky rather than whatever has the neatest looking bottle design & marketing strategy, literally the only drink normies seem to understand is actually good & also popular is Titos but I still see some buy Smirnoff & Absolut in their dumb over designed bottles.

You must be baiting. Smirnoff is much better than Tito's. Literally every vodka except for bottom shelf trash like Svedka or New Amsterdam is better than Tito's. I will never comprehend Titos' popularity, or why anybody would choose to pay $35 for a handle of bottom-middle tier vodka.

It depends what you're comparing it to.
It's much better than a tumbler / highball glass / coffee mug. I've not convinced its much better than a small wine glass. It's slightly better than a shot glass.

Regardless of how small the improvement is, it's a relatively small cost that will improve everything you drink, so it's worth it. Unless of course you're like this guy >>16562974 and are having a worse experience for no reason on purpose.

Anything rare now.
Anything from a new / small distillery that you think is very good and isn't cheating up the quality with wine casks (since they probably can't be scaled up).
Anything from Japan if you believe their whisky is about to be ruined by actually being made in Japan.
Anything from a struggling / failing distillery that produces good whisky. It's fine if it gets bought and saved, especially by Diageo, since Diageo owned is the worst tasting note as evidenced in these threads.

I wouldn't buy a standard bottling of a common whisky like Macallan, since you're banking on them spending huge money on advertising, the advertising working, and not them spending money on increasing production. Assuming that the market isn't already so saturated that no one will fall for the marketing after prices rise.

anybody have experienced or extra info on this bottling(as in what distillery it could be)?

>Vat No.14 Third Venom
>Bottled March 2021
>Black Snake is produced from a Vatting of casks finished in a Single Butt. It starts its life in first-fill ex-Bourbon casks. We then put three of them into new Oloroso or PX butts and leave for around a year for further maturation before bottling two thirds of the cask. We call these “Vats” as they are a kind of mini Solera. After each bottling we add two more ex-Bourbon casks, always of the same whisky, and leave for around another year before again bottling two thirds of the Vat. All future bottlings from each vatting of Black Snake will therefore contain some spirit that was in previous expressions from the Butt. From time to time the Butt is renewed. Each edition bottling of Black Snake is called “Venom”, as in a snake’s poison. A touch of Blackadder humour! The first bottling from each Vat is called “First Venom”, the second “Second Venom” and so on.
