Some place resembling OP's pic without the airco in the south of the Peloponnese, Greece. A Greek friend took me and my friend there for a 'special treat'. It was a watery potato soup with chunks in it. The chunks were disgusting, texture and flavor wise. I'm not a picky eater at all, so it was a first to spit out my food. Turned out to be lambs brains.I guess they simply boiled itin that watery broth, and it was the worst food I ever had.

Wally's Park Road Bar & Grill in Patterson, Missouri.

Absolute hole in the wall. I never would have even know it existed if my in-laws didn't live a quarter mile down the dirt road. A total dump. Probably the only place left in America where you can still smoke indoors. The whole place reeks of stale beer and wet cigarettes.

But I will say this: the peel & eat shrimp were fucking bangin'. Probably the best I've ever had. Boiled in God-knows-what seasonings and served on a fucking beverage tray, head-on. But the were absolutely delicious, not overcooked and a decent size. Gator tail was pretty amazing, too.

But the less I know about what goes on that kitchen, the better. I'd prefer to remain blissfully ignorant.

An In N Out in LA. I have no fucking clue was part of town I was in but I was staying with friend in Venice Beach and never had In N Out before so decided to stop at one on my way back to LAX for my flight back to New York. I must have been the only pale fave in the joint and thought I was going to be stabbed the entire time. The burger was also horrible and the fries were worse. I think my expectations were too high but I thought In N Out was kind of a nice fast food place and just did not expect it to be that ghetto.

Back when I was still in private highschool, I met a japanese guy in Who was actually wealthy(well, everyone was) and became good friends. Invited me over to his house during December break and told me about a very good restaraunt only locals knew. It did not look like a restaurant at all, It was Just a small house. Got seated in the living room with only a few tables and ate with my friend. Food was amazing and they only spoke Jap. Later, in another room some old men were gambling some money and my friend told me to join. Were unfriendly until I opened up to them and started gambling. Good experience but weird.

How much do you think having this much bullet proof glass installed costs? Ten thousand for materials, shipping, and the work?
How much do you think the average robber gets out of the register when they hold a place up? $200? No one uses cash anymore and a place like this certainly won't keep much in the till box.
How many times does this place need to have been robber per week for the work to be economical?

Your typical armed KFC robber is high as fuck on crack or meth (and thus hasn't slept in 4 days) and is just one intrusive thought away from blowing away the employee.
It only takes one dead or injured employee (or family thereof) to sue to fucking destroy your whole franchise. You put up the bullet proof glass and that risk is gone, or at the very least you can claim in court that your business did as much as it could to protect employees.
