What's up with this new right wing meme that "seed oils" are bad for you and are one of the root causes of the decline of western civilization?

The issue is that most of them go through extensive refining processes. Go look up how they're made with chemical solvents and deodorizers and whatever else. They're basically a processed food, and I don't think there's any dispute about processed food being less healthy. I don't think minimally processed oils are unhealthy though. Promoting them as a healthier alternative over animal fats was probably done more from an economic standpoint than an actual health standpoint, and it's normal for there to be eventual backlash to that. Especially after we found out that vegetable shortening killed a ridiculous number of people while it was claimed to be healthier.

I don't really think it's specifically a right-wing talking point though, as you'll find plenty of left-wing people criticizing processed foods as well. Although right-wing people are probably more likely to promote unprocessed animal products and left-wing people might promote unprocessed plant foods more.

zero carb science, poly unsaturated fatty acids are bad for you while saturated fat is what we evolved to eat, your cells are made up of the fat you eat, fun fact, if you elimate PUFA's and only consume saturated fat, you can stay in the sun for twice as long without burning

keto tards still slop up the oils like crazy, when I question them about it I get responses like
>I only care about calories and carbs
this is the problem when a diet is promoted as a weightloss diet, you get retards with one thing on their mind

Its actually a really good lubricant for chainsaws.
Since you're sawing trees out in nature, you don't want a petroleum based lubricant. It gets consumed quickly as the chain cuts the wood, so a fair amount is left in the environment.
Refined seed oils fits the bill perfectly. Cheap and biodegradable, meets all the engineering requirements of and industrial lubricant.
Decline of western civilization, my ass. In decades past we would have used a petroleum based oil to lubricate our chainsaws. This is a huge leap forward.

>> No.16503795

What does this have to with politics. It's just oil. People want to pay premium for alternative oils that's fine with me. Lard, butter oil, all the same. You simply don't eat enough of the stuff for the health differences to matter. Taste is far more important. You can't have tamales without lard, or bread without butter, or Certain Indian dishes without mustard oil. Canola oil, corn oil, peanut oil are all fine oils that have been produced for centuries. It's a meme to hate them. And like I said, cooking oils do not form bulk of your daily calories. Thinking one oil will dramatically increase your wellbeing over the others is falling for marketing.

True, but what has. You mentioned chemical processes. I don't see the issue. Are the chemical processes creating harmful byproducts? Are we consuming the chemicals themselves? Chemical processes in food have been used since the bronze age too. What is nixtamlization. Or Fermentation.

Look up "canola oil production flowchart" and if you don't get it - NGMI!

There shouldn't be anything "right wing" about this - any hippie in the 60's would have just cooked like a normal human with butter and lard.

"seed oil" products are way below peasant gruel and a convenient way to mask consumer goods inflation - not even fit for a dog.

The deodorization changes the nutritional content of the oil and actually does create some harmful byproducts. And that's just heating up the oil with some water, I'm sure the other more intensive forms of processing do something similar as well.
