There are countries that literally put a plate in the middle of the table and everyone eats from one plate, Ethiopia is one off the top of my head. Chinese boomers are something else man.
I always wonder if it has anything to do with the Cultural Revolution? Like when the yanqui boomers were hippies protesting the war, the government took a pretty dim view of them (right?), but when Chinese boomers were Red Guards the government was egging them on as they beat up their elders. Could have instilled an extreme sense of entitlement in the generation maybe?
Younger Chinese are generally better in my experience, but that's probably skewed by only only encountering students.

The vast bulk of the population was just peasant farmers who couldn't be assed to care about the civil war. They and their children to took the "extravagant" modern luxuries rather eagerly when China's wealth reached the point where even the poorest peasant could afford fashionable western food.
The latest generation is a mixed bag. Some of them have been a little reactionary to the last generation, while others are still the equivalent of "rich white trash" that their parents were. A lot of the kids that get sent overseas to study where their parents buy them houses and cars are in the latter group.
