You can make an okay breading with them if you crush them pretty fine. It's sort of a parallel, but one of my favorite fish breadings is simply processed canned fried onions (like you'd expect on an american green bean casserole). Salty and savory and the fish cooks fast enough that burning them isn't a worry.
