Hi /ck/ /biz/raeli here
You fags know anything about scotch/whisky?
Being a crypto trader has the requirement of being an alcoholic and I don't want to become a day fuck so I need to make the switch from beer
Say you had a few thousand to buy some stuff for someone with a beginner palette
What would you get?

Black booster is decent for a beginner to whisky, mellow taste, not too harsh on your throat

only buy it if it says "single malt" on it

I quite like laphroaig, but for a beginner palette it ain't. Smells like a tire-fire
OP, maybe get one peated whisky to see if you like it first? Something like a Bunnahabhain might be a good place to start?
Glenfiddich is pretty standard as far as more normal whiskys go too.
Ideally you would probably be best going out to a bar/pub with a decent whisky selection that isn't too pricey and just trying a few different things to see what you like. There's a whole wide world out there.
Also IIRC Nip Whisky is basically Scotch but made in Japan (the Japs brought over a load of scottish distillers to get their industry started), so that stuff might be worth a try too

scotch is for manchildren LARPing as a cartoon caricature of what "real men" do. HURRR I EAT NAILS AND RAW MEAT. have fun with that, I'll stick to things that are both delicious and compatible with being a functional human being.

Wow a few thousand! Nice. Not often have I seen someone with a little cash looking for good booze on this board. Not really necessary to spend a lot when you're figuring out what you like, but I'll give you some recommendations.

I would figure out if I liked peated or non peated first. An old ardbeg like a 20+ year. Runs about 500, but the peat flavor is better balanced. Kinda like smoky, caramelly, minerally, old book kinda taste and smell. Very nice.
For non peated scotch Aberlour abunadh is good and quite high proof.
Kavalan is really good non peated whisky. Made in taiwan. Their sherry cask releases are very good. Decent bottles run from 200-600 bucks.
