For me, it's the $3 (and sometimes cheaper) kroger frozen pizzas

Yep, they're based alright. Ever try Krogey's Private Selection 'za's? Pic related has absolutely no business being as tasty as it is. And the crust is always the perfect crispness.

this is the only frozen 'za I'll buy, mostly for nostalgia when I was in pottery and they were a gourmet treat with my bro. otherwise I'll just get a real one from a 'zzeria

Those self-rising crust pizzas, whether Kroger brand or Digiorno, are so fucking disgusting

The crust is soft and doughy even when you put it straight on the rack for a few minutes longer than the instructions, and it tastes like white bread

Kroger won't fire you but they also won't pay you well. There's no real point in giving a shit if you work there, and the fact that they love running skeleton crews so the middle managers can get more bonuses really doesn't help.

What almost pisses me off more is how they treat competition. Sample story
>Be Kroger
>Have new store, with a few other grocery stores nearby
>Pump all resources possible into new Kroger store
>Live music performing in the store daily (local stuff, quaint but nice)
>Conveyor belt sushi bar with actual fresh made sushi
>Fully staffed departments
>Hire multiple chef's who's sole jobs are to make samples and engage with customers
>Hire young local artists to regularly change signs in the store
>so on and so forth
>Do this until local competition literally goes bankrupt and vacates their building
>Immediately pull all support to new kroger
>tear up conveyor belt sushi, cancel all music, reduce all staff hours, delegate chefs to random clerk positions
>Store goes to shit
>Store manager and regional managers shift focus to squeezing as many bonuses as they can out of the store

It was actually a cool place to visit and work, the parking lot would regularly fill up to capacity, and customers and employees were happy. Before I worked there I would regularly get lunch there, but not so much anymore. I rarely even see employees working the deli anymore, and that was since before COVID.

I've seen this. I've worked at albertsons and stater brothers (regional california market). The albertsons was in a decent position until they opened a pavillions and put all their resources into that store and then albertsons suddenly got all dingy and drying up. Quit eventually, a new SB that was being built for a couple years was hiring for all positions and then I was a cashier there for 3 years. Much better store, still maintained like it was just opened and doing a lot better than the other local markets. I think kroger is the worst with how they manage stores honestly. Everything you said is exactly what one of my friends who used to work there said.
