Has anyone ever cooked and eaten placenta?

My wife is 8 months and we're thinking of eating the placenta the night of the birth

cooking it kills all the bacteria anyway.

I work in a pathology lab and handle placentas every day. I would never in a million years eat one.
The texture is like a dish sponge, but filled with blood.
Blood does not taste good.

pathology guy here again.
No, it's some hippy dippy new age shit.
Nobody can explain why a woman eating her own placenta is scientifically better than just cooking her a steak.
That's because the people who encourage and recommend it are inclined to magical thinking.

>Blood does not taste good.
It can if you're low in iron. Pregnant women have a high iron requirement, higher than adult men. Placenta could provide that I guess but so could beef liver or something.

>> No.16392381

>>16392378
No doubt. Blood has tons of iron.
Women need to consume tons of iron after giving birth.
Absolutely true in that regard.

But like I said before. Just eat a steak.

>NOOOOO PEOPLE DERIVING SPIRITUAL FULFILLMENT FROM A HARMLESS ACTIVITY WHY AREN'T THEY TAKING DRUGS INSTEAD???
Grow out of your scientism phase as soon as possible. It's like saying "why do people have funerals when their family members die, they're just collections of molecules after all". Spiritual health is at least as important as physical and mental health. To dismiss it because it can't be boiled down into empirical autism is to reject the central thread of humanity in favor of living like a machine.

>> No.16392409

What's the spiritual fulfillment of eating a membrane covered sack of blood vessels in accordance with a hippie book written in 1972?

Why not get a different spirituality besides this pseudo-pagan earth mother witchcraft bullshit where you need to drink your own rotten blood to get soul energy from it?

>> No.16392420

>>16392381
Steak actually doesn't have a ton of iron. It's still a decent source of it but can't compare with liver which has like 7x as much by weight. Like sometimes I crave red meat but other times I can just tell I need more iron and red meat won't satisfy even if I eat close to a pound of it, and I'll keep wanting to eat liver instead.

Spirituality is not the central thread of humanity. Rational thinking is what separates us from animals and why we no longer live in the stone age. Some people derive comfort from spirituality, which is fine. But you don’t need to justify eating placentas by claiming it has any sort of special health benefit that other foods don’t.

I like the idea of planting a tree and using the placenta as fertilizer. Eating it just sounds retarded. If you want the most benefit out of it you'd eat it raw but why would you do that? Are you a malnourished bushman from the kalahari?

Seriously plant a tree, you can then tell your kid and they'll think your kind of weird but kinda cool, as opposed to telling them or anyone else that you ate what amounts to a human organ

This isn't something that _any_ culture has done prior to the 20th century though. Chinese herbal medicine uses dried human placenta as a remedy, not for PPD in the mother, but for other people. Go and do some reading:
