just tried cooking chili con carne and it was... alright. Not bad by any means, but it felt pretty bland overall.
I followed this recipe https://www.errenskitchen.com/classic-chili-con-carne/, I cut all the ingredients listed by half but other than that followed the recipe to the letter.
I'm not used to this type of dish, so if anyone used to making chili con carne would share some tips on how to make the dish feel less bland next time, I'd appreciate that

anon next time try not to cut everything in half. online recipes are generally bland as fuck because theyre usually for soccer mom types. you should also learn how to season to taste. when youre making one pot meals always taste and adjust to your liking.

There's no fucking chili component in that recipe, OP. No chili powder or dried chilis - so that right there is the biggest issue with that recipe.

Also, I don't see bell peppers or celery - I would add them to my chili as well for some depth. Worcestershire sauce would also help liven it up.

Also, instead of doing 2 pounds of ground beef - I would do 1 pound of ground beef and 1 pound of Italian sausage.

A little basil wouldn't hurt either. And I always add in a half of a can of light beer mainly because It will give me an excuse to drink half a beer randomly throughout the day.

That's a terrible recipe. She didn't even add and chili pepper. She served it over rice so I really wasn't expecting much, honestly.

Ah so that's why this recipe is so terrible.
