What’s the best way to make a burger? Lately I’ve been experimenting with the Oklahoma onion burger.

I like a good smashed burger. I won't say no to a thicker burger if that's what's being offered, but if I'm making them I tend to go thin. IDK, but I like that ratio of meat to toppings. Onion burgers are great, I barely let the onions cook at all, just enough to mellow the kick but still leave a little crunch.

What kind of neanderthal 'burger' is this

>> No.16377568

Raw onion is pretty common on burgers and pretty good. I would bet more places serve raw onion instead of grilled or caramelized. Try it sliced very thin, lots of flavor very little harsh bite.

An onion and a pickle and some lettuce adds nice crunch to a burger. I find grilled onions add sweetness where it doesn't belong.

>>16377545
raw onion is the oly way to go, either rings or chopped mcdonald's style

>> No.16377619

Hamburgers are interesting. Sometimes I like a burger with plenty toppings that add crunch or more flavors like veggies or sauteed onions, or pickled jalapenos, other times just a burger patty with mustard and cheese is all I'm looking for.

It might sound weird, but i would rather dip the edge of my burger in a bit of ketchup than have the ketchup already applied under the bun.

I'd smash.

it's more neanderthal to not eat onions on a burger

>>16377568
exactly. it adds a distinct new dimension to a burger

>>16377576
yes i only grill onions for hot dogs. it dominates the whole burger if added

>>16377605
this. chopped mcdonalds style preferred but the rings add a nice aesthetic touch

Do we call McDonalds' onions raw though? Aren't they dehydrated or freeze dried and then reconstituted in store as needed? Nothing wrong with that, those methods prevent spoilage while retaining some texture and flavor, but the texture and flavor IS distinctly different from raw fresh chopped onion. Do we still call them raw?

when I worked at wendy's a few years back we got whole peeled onions from sysco which would get cut during morning prep, no reason mcd's couldn't do the same

We did a similar thing at Taco Bell for our beans, they came in dry pellets that looked like hamster food, but leave them soaking in hot water overnight and wa la, you have a tub of refried beans.

Only idiots ruin a burger by putting raw vegetables on it. Lazy fucks, just cook the fucking vegetables. Also tomatoes are disgusting and ruin the flavor. The most bland fucking vegetables ever when left uncooked.
