Do americans have a vegemite spread they use? it is a unique spread type and should appeal to others besides the commonwealth.

WHy do americans dislike vegemite? is it not sweet enough?

i like marmite on buttered toast, thinking of ordering some vegemite.

i think americans are conditioned to think that a dark spread is meant to be sweet and when they get a bite full of salt and savory expecting it to be sweet they stay off of it. My dad had a marmite jar and i took a big spoonful once thinking it was going to be sweet and it blew my head off when i was a boy, but now i love it.

t. american but my dad is from northern ireland

there is no yeast extract spread readily available in the US. vegemite is incredibly salty, bitter, and pungent. acclimatization requires childhood indoctrination.

as someone who moved to australia as a young adult it took me some time to appreciate vegemite. now i love it but first taste i had was confusing, it doesn't taste like food

Marmite is actually quite sweet compared to vegemite which has no sweetness really.
Marmite is good all yeast spreads are good but none are like vegemite in how salty it is.

Get some vegemite, butter your bread and toast it a bit and add vegemite.

Are americans really such pigs they generally cannot stand vegemite?

its not available in retail and you have to order it online, americans havent tried it. i think yeast spread is a commonwealth thing like drinking tea and stuff like that. There are commonwealth people who dont like marmite or vegemite, it think either you like it or you dont and its not widely available here, and the average american would probably think its like nutella and put way too much on their toast and gag on it.

tl;dr yeast spreads are something unique to the commonwealth that are alien to americans

I did not like it much as a kid and preferred peanut butte but it makes your bread taste like food and actually nice.
Americans are missing out
>>16333780
Someone should make a yeast spread for americans then or advertise vegemite and teach them not to put so much on.
You only need a bit and even I put a lot on...

In some places you can get Bovrite which has some of the same meaty, savory flavor, but I find it to be pretty tame.

it's not marketed or manufactured in the US and is only sold at a premium as an import item. i saw it for sale at a grocery once and paid about $8 USD for a small jar. i tried it on toasted white bread with butter and it was just okay. i can see where it is an acquired taste and makes a strong imprint on a bong or strayan child's nostalgia centers, but it reminded me, a white trash american, too much shitty stock cubes for me to enjoy properly.
vege- marm- bovr- wtfe- mite is to commonwealth nerds as peanutbutter is to americans. it's really nothing amazing, it's just a product that they have and we don't.

I've been doing a yeast extract spread shootout.

So far for me

Promite > NZ Marmite > UK Marmite

Promite is the most balanced to me. NZ Marmite also has a good balance, but I prefer Promite more. UK Marmite is too forward with salty/bitter flavors. I've had vegemite before, but it was a long time ago so I need to try it again for a fair assessment. Based off of my memory, I'd put vegemite above UK marmite but below everything else.

Currently looking into getting some Cenovis.

I also have Bovrite and it's good, but not a yeast extract so I didn't include it.

You seem to be the racist, as is very common with your types. I simply don't give a shit about your fucking nations and don't want to visit them.
If you want to call me racist for disagreeing with you then you must have been shillary supporters since that's the best that they can do.
Are you still seething in your closets because Trump beat your annointed one?

We use jams generally. This is the same yes. With different vegetable ingredients I suppose? We generally use fruits. Do you have any commentary on the difference between vegemite to jam with regard to nutritional info?

I’m an American who did some volunteer work in Australia and I enjoyed vegemite basically the first time I tried it, but I had an Australian tell me how much to put on. I’d say Americans probably don’t really have an issue with the taste necessarily, but since we don’t have a yeast spread people don’t realize how strong it is, put on way too much, and then assume it just tastes bad.

I tried Vegemite once because my friend got an Australian gf and she ordered it online. I liked it, but I thought it tasted disturbing because like that earlier anon said it doesn't really taste like food. It's the same experience that I had with natto and sweet braised lotus root
