Sometimes I put pickles on my grilled cheese and it's pretty good. The acidity helps balance out all the fat so I can see kimchi actually working on it. It's just his pan was so hot he literally couldn't have it go longer than 30 seconds per side which isn't nearly long enough to even get the cheese warm before the bread is charred.

Whoever set up the kitchen for him put the pan in the fireplace too early. That's a really bad example actually because most americans (including me) actually say it like budder, which is not at all "pure" from the standpoint of the letters the word consists of. In certain dialects in the UK, though, they actually would put a sharp emphasis on the double t sound.

I'm not saying america isn't closer, I can't know that for sure, but it's not as cut and dry as you make it. There's no such thing as a totally unaccented dialect or strict 1:1 expression of all sounds in written systems.
