I think it has something to do with the additives you always hear about. They're made to burn faster and for you to metabolize the nicotine more efficiently.

On top of that, you're INHALING cigarette smoke, which you presumably don't do with cigar or pipe tobacco. You're addicted by the quantity of nicotine delivered in such a short increment of time.

For cigars try something with a lighter wrapper, a sungrown, and a maduro.

See how she goes, you may struggle a bit at first to get it going properly, but watch a few guides.

General cigar has a habit of buying every brand they can, which is why they own a bunch of cuban names (Hoyo, partegas, cohiba, punch,Ramone Allones, bolivar, and LGC) They also own budget brands like Diesel. It seems like the popularity of AJF's blends(he mostly does contract work) has forced them into having AJF do alot more work for them. On the La Gloria side,

>The original non-Cuban La Gloria Cubana blend was created in Miami in 1972 at the El Credito cigar factory, but wasn't the focus until cigarmaker Ernesto Perez-Carrillo took over the company in 1980. It gained a cult following and, by the 1990s, eventually grew into a national brand causing Perez-Carrillo to move his production to the Dominican Republic in order to meet demand. La Gloria Cubana got the attention of General Cigar, which purchased the brand in 1999 and offered Perez-Carrillo a job. He accepted, and stayed with General for 10 years, before leaving 2009 to start his own company. In 2017, General and Perez-Carrillo collaborated on a line called La Gloria Cubana Colección Reserva.

So I was wrong. Myb. I wasn't smoking LGC back in the early 00s, so I can't tell you how they've changed.

>Are plastic necks standard for pipes, even nice ones
lucite and vulcanite (rubber) are the standard. you can get pipe condoms made of rubber to put over the mouthpiece area if you want. lots of guys use them because they make it easier to clench the pipe in your teeth.

of the pipes with "natural" stems, the only ones I'd be willing to put in my mouth are the old-fashioned clay pipes. the guys making all-wood pipes are invariably doing it for LoTR larpers and the pipes not only aren't designed to be smoked, they're frequently made of wood that is toxic or irritating - because that wood is cheaper and they're not intended for smoking.

tl;dr - nope the fuck away from any pipe that *isn't* using some sort of rubber or plastic stem.

For cigars, try out some good tripa corta cigars, they can be nice and you wont feel like burning money if you don't finish them.

Nicotine is interesting like that. Also, avoid cigarettes except on occasion. I smoked a pack a day for four years and me and literally every other long term smoker will tell you it's made their life objectively worse. I'm happier for having quit. Enjoying tobacco through the medium of pipes and cigars is much more enjoyable in the long term without quite the devastating consequences.

Especially if you're already on an empty stomach or dehydrated, or if you're just not used to nicotine, a cigarette will do that. As a pipe smoker, cigar sticker shock still fucks me up so I swing for them less frequently, but smoking a pipe is objectively cheaper than cigarettes. Just order online and you can get a year's worth of pipe tobacco for like 60 bucks.

And it's worth noting, I'll still enjoy a cigarette when I want that hypodermic effect of a nicotine hit (like if I'm drinking with friends and we're pretty smashed), but outside of that it's really not worth how horrible it makes you feel. I dunno. I feel odd as a regular pipe/cigar/snuff user talking down to someone about how bad tobacco is for you but I feel like cigarettes are truly in a different category.

Slight fruity flavour; plum, raisins and perhaps sweetish red wine? But very mild casing. The tin states plum and liquor as the casing.
Only had a few bowls and I'm fairly new to Burley blends, the nuttiness of the Burley I find predominant, mixing with the sweetness (the casing) and a little spice (the Latakia or just the casing again?).

Still trying to decide whether this is a slight step above Carter Hall and Half n Half or not.

I strongly recommend avoiding cigarettes. If you want a good nicotine hit, Peterson's Royal Yacht and Nightcap are good options for your vitamin N. Also, any plug or rope pipe tobacco tends to have a shit ton of nicotine. Tobaccoreviews is a good website that shows nicotine content in pipe tobacco. I personally smoke aromatics or English aromatics in my Vauen pipes, but I also explicitly try to avoid some of the tobacco negatives by using 9mm filters. Probably pseudoscience, but I feel better smoking with filters.

Nah. The temperature of the smoke is nearly entirely unaffected. Clay pipes were a thing during the same periods that wooden pipes were. Clay pipes were used as rentals in pubs essentially - they could be cleaned by just putting them in some fire, and they were cheap to make. The heat of smoke doesn't give you tongue bite. Typically the smoke is quite cool by the time it hits your mouth, if it isn't, you've gone about heating it on purpose by puffing like a maniac. This is absurdly easy to confirm - put some hot water in your mouth, maybe even hot enough to sting. Pay attention to the feeling of heat. Now smoke your pipe - nearly zero perception of heat. It's just combustion byproducts that chemically sting your tongue.

Here's the finished product. The whole kitchen smells strongly of And So To Bed now, which is really nice. Sweet vanilla and maple syrup and almonds all come through from the unnburnt tobacco for me, but I'm not attuned to it enough to identify beyond that.

The snuff itself goes up quite easily and hits very mildly, imbuing the same scents from the tobacco. Overall I think this is a success. I don't have much Esoterica on hand and it isn't the easiest to get, so I think for a next batch I'm going to try out Billy Budd, which is a Burley/Cigar leaf blend.
