mine was at a Manadarin. but it was also a bad experience too. I ate too much food with an ex gf and felt awfully stuffed for the rest of the day. I told myself never to go to another buffet and that. It's been 2 years now.

oh wait, I forgot to mention my experience in Bangkok at a hotel breakfast buffet. The hotel is called the Athenee, and I'm pretty sure it's in what's consider downtown in BKK. It's close to lumphini park.
>They had a table of freshly cut up fruits like dragon fruit, oranges, watermelon, mango, et al
>A table of pastries and European styled breads with cold cuts. My favourite from there was the egg, cinnamon raisin french toast concoction.
>Chefs to make you eggs and bacon
>a fruit juice bar where you'd pick your fruits and a chef would make it for you
>freshly cut coconuts for coconut water. you'd be given a straw to drink right from the body of it

Super China Buffet one dreary winter evening.

Place is a dump, used to be a department store and still looks like one. One gigantic room with high ceilings with like two hundred tables and people just feeding like livestock.

The buffet was like half Chinese fare and the rest was completely random shit like chicken nuggets, spaghetti, crawfish, roast turkey.

Pure magic. We left the waiter a one dollar tip and as we were leaving he literally said "OH WOW all for me?" and bowed his head like 5 times sarcastically

10/10 haven't been back but the memory is so strong I can relive it anytime I want

I'm >>16270080. Grew up in Vegas. Obviously quality varies, but the reputation of Las Vegas buffets comes from the days of yore. Back in the day, you could get a $2.99 all you can eat prime rib because that was part of the incentive for getting you in to waste all day gaming. Now, they're no longer the loss leaders because gaming revenue has remained stagnant while true revenue growth comes from occupancy of rooms and other entertainment/alcohol venues. All of the buffets operate at a loss, and are constantly looking to cut costs.

It's more expensive for worse food. Sure, it might be better than the shitty Chinese buffet you have in a town outside of Omaha, but I'd legitimately rather eat at McDonalds than most of the buffets. I can't function after eating a buffet meal either... I'd crash for the night.

Went to a local but now defunct restaurant that did a salad & dessert bar along with the meal, after the meal the two oldest of the boys decided to eat as many bowls of ice cream as they could and got to 23 before they gave up. The the oldest of the girls didn't want to leave because she kept wanting to eat. Best buffet I ever went to was for a local fundraiser. A bunch of old grandmas from the local church were turning out all the best Southern cooking and soul food I ever had while 7-8 old guys worked BBQ pits, smokers, and grills. It was BYOA and still cost $40, but they let you take a whole pecan pie home if you wanted one too. I volunteered the next three years to help with the BBQ (including hunting the hog and deer) and had a great time drinking all day and learning about grilling from guys who had forgotten more about BBQ than I'll ever learn.

Worst buffet was Golden Corral. The food was meh and the service was actually great, but apparently it was National White and Black Trash Bringing Their 20+ Kids To Run Around The Local Buffet Day. I had to resist the urge to stab clearly unwashed children the third time they ran around my table screaming at the top of their lungs.

>honestly sounds like you went to a shitty yakiniku
Honestly like you haven’t been to enough to know the difference. You still push the button for drinks.
OP asked about buffet experiences. So I posted a yakiniku buffet. The ones where cute waitresses bring you little plates of meat with handwritten labels wouldn’t exactly be on topic, now would they.

Going here with my grandma, probably just for the nostalgia. They had good instant mashed potatoes and gravy. I don't really like buffet food generally.

>People will hate, but Shoney's back in the 80s was unreal.
Mu ex's family considered it a must-do thing to go to Shoneys before a theme park...HATED IT...last thing I want to do before standing in lines in the sun all day is some all you can eat breakfast. You can get everthing you'd ever want at breakfast for no money anyway. It irritated the heck out of me to be forced to do that every time, waiting for 2hrs while people finished gorging while the parks got hotter in summer.

Bleh.

I don't mind an all-you-can eat, whether a good Chinese buffet, a brazilian rodizio salad bar and a good cocktail before the meat starts coming around to the table. Porcao, The Knife, Rodizio, Texas a Brazil, they're all with terrific bread, desserts, little fussy salads no one has made since the 60s for being too much work.

But, big hotel Sunday brunches are the best, where there will be a carving station, pasta station, piles of seafood on ice, and good salad bars, mmhmm. Maybe the Biltmore in Coral Gables is the best. Ceviche, stone crabs, lobster, king crab, assortment of caviar, complimentary cocktails, and it's all perfection. I wouldn't be surprised if they aren't the best in the world. $150/pp
There are niche restaurants doing buffets for years too, such as a drive down to the Keys always including a stop at Whale Harbor.

best buffet experience by far was at a shoneys, specifically the one in columbia, south carolina off I77 about 3 years ago. was going up north to see family and had to stop for the night. got a hotel, we were hungry and the shoneys was within walking distance from the hotel. i forgot what all they had, but i just remember it was really good, at least compared to the shitty asian buffet in the next town over from me.

At rehab they took us to $50 person a pop Chinese buffet by the ocean so I hope the seafood was fresh. It had everything and everything was really fresh. Obviously the 5k I paid for the 18 days easily covered it, but they had a guy making fresh soup dumplings and a spicy noodle soup that the guy couldn't tell me exactly how they made it (he barely spoke english) and even the rice was amazing. It's probably because I was down to 120 lbs and hadn't had a proper meal in a long time, but fuck if that wasn't the best buffet and/or meal since I got sober.
