I recently discovered that I may have had a deficiency.

A mental one? Yes, probably.

Of sodium, or iodine? Either way it's pretty amazing that you managed to get a deficiency in 2021, I get sufficient iodine solely from the salt I cram up my ass.

we used to put iodine in bread. then it was moved to salt
conspiracy theorists will tell you this was to make you crave fried/junk food

If you need iodine, consume more dairy.

There is no way junk food was designed to make you crave it

Here's a little interesting thing that I have read on the topic. Most cardiologist and nutritionist recommend that people should consume about 2,000 mg of sodium a day. But I've also seen long term studies performed on people with low sodium diets, 2,000 and below, and the had somewhere around 30 percent increase in cardiovascular diseases compared to those that consumed a moderate amount, 3-5,000 mg, if memory serves me. And those that had a high sodium intake, more than 7,000 mg of sodium, only had an increased chance for cardiovascular disease, compared to the low sodium diets, for those that had hypertension.

you don't eat right in general, because you get plenty of iodine eating normal foods, like turkey, baked potatoes, the occasional nori-wrapped sushi roll, beans, fish n chips, etc

They're not different, the British just spell certain words differently then we do.

except for extraordinary cases an insanely high sodium intake is preferable to a moderately low one. By moderately low I mean compared FDA and "experts" standards because those standards are way too low and aimed at a very selective group and was somehow deemed applicable to everyone else

I have to admit that I accepted the low sodium guidelines for many years, and I never thought about how my blood work was always off. I only recently discovered those studies I mentioned that go along with what you just said.

the conspiracy theory, though, is that moving iodine to salt makes your body crave salty foods even more b/c salt is now your only source of iodine
