Good tequila is as good as the best whisk(e)y, cognac/armagnac, or rum.
The best tequilas are blancos. Agave has a lot of inherent flavor and complexity, it doesn't need a bunch of time in oak to become something enjoyable. While there are excellent reposados, anejos and extra anejos, aging often just detracts from the agave.
