Did anon ever bought a box of military's MRE? How was it? Will you buy again?

Yes, 3 or 4 years ago. Canadian MRE's. I ended up eating them during lockdown. All of them were delicious. I will buy again, definitely.

>> No.16173659

I ate a lot of them as a kid after we got stranded post hurricane katrina. The military handed out a bunch. My favourite part was the tiny tabasco bottles, the food itself was fucking sickening.

>>16173621I brought it just because I was in the military and I was used to them. It was the real deal, but way too fucking expensive for what i8t is. They are best suited for what they were made for: to sit on a shelf for a while and provide a bunch of troops with food while out in the field.

If you are camping it is best to just prepare your own food, or buy the cheaper shit marketed towards civilians.

I bought 2 boxes of the 2019 menu off Amazon a few years ago while I was drunk. Still have some of them at home in case of a catastrophic even that will never happen, gave some to my parents for the same reason. Also keep a few in my truck for when I go camping.

Fine, I always wanted some so it was a worthwhile purchase.

Never had a military MRE but ate some shelf-stable backpacking food at Philmont while in the Boy Scouts. The chicken with rice was good, most of the other meals were edible. The BBQ beef was like eating a handful of salt with a tangy aftertaste.

lol hell no
at one point about half my relatives were in the army, so I used to get Aussie MREs given to me all the time.
Realistically, everyone would just use the drink/seasoning sachets around the house like normal after drinking all of the condensed milk on the first day.
Then we'd use the little vegemite tubes and crackers etc when out on camping trips or for the car's emergency pack (in case of break down)

>> No.16174997

>>16173621
Depends.
If you're wise you can make your own emergency meals with better quality goods with a vacuum sealer.
If you lack time and materials they are acceptable as an emergency stash but pricy (and you'll end up with 12 packs of half unused accessories like TP and matches)

Not a whole case. I bought a few individually out of curiosity from watching Steve. Pretty much everything from a retort pouch had a weird metallic aftertaste, but they weren't terrible. I'd say it's like one step below cafeteria food. MRE crackers are literal crack, though.

I had a bunch a while back. They're fine, they're shelf-stable food for going out on marches or to a lesser extent battles. It's basically camping food, just made to the cheapest price for longest length possible. It's ok. Helps if you wanna pack a full meal in a small space.

It's also worth noting it's for dudes taking long ass hikes, you should only have one.

If you have eaten in the last 12 hours it is going to suck.
If it's been 24 hours or more though it becomes bearable and past 48 hours they are so fuckin good.

that's the point. soldiers chilling at the base (as they do 90% of the time) just eat regular food. you only eat the MRE when you're out, and only for a short-term period. the MRE is actually designed to constipate you so you don't have to shit for a week when you're out on patrol or whatever it is you're supposed to be doing. that's why you're not supposed to eat them daily for longer than a week

I usually get one every couple of years when I am in the mood. Used to live near a military base so I could get them pretty easily, but the last one I got off ebay during COVID due to some stuff going on at my apartment.

They can vary depending on how fresh it is and the menu, and how decent the heaters are. Last batch I had the heaters were crap and was a crapshoot if it got cooked all the way or not. Any of the stew-style items, tortilla items, and ones with stuff like pound cake or jalepeno cheese are good ones. Anything that tries to be fancy (There was a burger style one I got a few years back that was gross) tends to fall short. The pizza one was eh, not bad but not decent either.

I would probably get some more in a year or two, depending on price. I'm tempted to try out a few MREs from other countries (France is one I have been wanting to try for awhile, along with some of the asian style ones).

They're not designed for consuming for longer than 2 weeks at a time. That said, people have lasted longer eating nothing but fast food and booze, but even a big mac meal has more fiber than your average MRE.
