Well I think the best thing to get started is to cook dishes you already like to eat
If you wanna experiment, salads are great at this time of the year, and they allow you to try interesting combinations (For example I learned to cook with fruits this way)

pan seared protein along with roasted veggies and a starch like rice or pasta. this is probably the most basic template for a simple meal but its a good way to get basic things like temperature, prep, and timing down. keep a well stocked spice cabinet, look to recipes for inspo and to learn new techniques, log any mistakes in your head, experiment when you become comfortable.

>doesn't have a book recommendation
Also let's be real, nobody learns cooking from books. Maybe after you know the basics you'll read some books to go deeper in certain areas.

Pick an ingredient you like. Can be anything. Meat, veg, a herb or spice.

Google for recipes with that ingredient. Pick one that sounds good.

Read the recipe. Do you have all the equipment you need to make It? Can you afford to buy the things you're missing? If not pick something else. Otherwise go to the store and buy the ingredients.

Follow the recipe as best you can. Taste your food as it cooks(unless it's raw meat or whatnot).

When it's done eat it.

Consider how it turned out. What did you like? What did you Not? What could you have done better.

Repeat this process with many ingredients. Maybe choose something you have left over from the first recipe you tried.

After doing this on a regular basis for some time you will know what you enjoy eating and how to make it.

Enjoy your /ck/ life.
