Sometimes I scan coupons and then just insert blank slips of paper too so i can reuse the coupon. Not proud of that one.

The stores where I live at some point all turned off the weighing part of the self checkout. It only asks you to weigh certain fruit and veg to calculate the price, it doesn't bother with anything else. You can just put all your groceries straight into the cart. It makes it super easy to steal things or slightly cheat the machine on expensive fruits and veg. I've stolen a whole chicken like 3 times, although twice it was by accident.

On most self checkout systems, if you wait until it stops giving you the "put item in bagging area" bullshit, the screen returns to normal and you can proceed to pick up bags from the bagging area and put them in your cart, and continue scanning other stuff without it giving any sort of audible.

If you go when its busy and have alot of stuff I get waved thru by the overseer without them checking my cart against the items rung up.

Depends on the item. Produce and food will almost never have an anti-theft tag, but high price items often will.

Some places have a magnetic tool that cashiers use to deactivate the anti-theft tags.
