Instead of making tofu from soybeans, why don't people just use normal beans like kidney beans, pinto beans, or even chickpeas? They can't taste any worse than soy.

Pic is actually relevant to the discussion.

I've wondered if you can't make plant cheese out of peanuts or chickpeas as well.

most of those are already mundane foods, though they don't have quite the consistency of tofu because different beans different products

>kidney beans
japanese "red bean paste" isn't strictly kidney beans but it's a really similar species of bean
>pinto beans
I can't remember the name but there's a mexican version of pemmican that's mostly mashed up pinto and persists to this day as a common savoury snack bar type thing
>or even chickpeas
hummus is basically this

also nut cheese is basically tofu but for people who are even more figuratively soy

is that how actual nut-cheese browns? I've never had it (at least, in any notable presentation) but that looks really good, like caramelized mozzarella. What's that like a vegan lasagna?

>> No.16109057

i dont understand nut cheese. why not just eat nuts. or if you want to make a curdled/fermented nut product, why not just treat it like what it is instead of pretending it's dairy cheese

Making tofu with soy beans vs making mashed pinto bean beaner bars isn't comparable you imbicile

>> No.16109101

Tofu has a relatively neutral flavor that can absorb sauces and complement dishes easier, like rice.

>> No.16109159

>>16109078
im pretty sure mashed pinto bean beaner bars are indeed fermented or at least processed more than just being mashed

if anything hummus is the outlier since that's basically just nut/pea butter

It's a vegan lasagna. The cheese didn't seem to brown, on the right it's a stark white and the only color it's mixed with appears to just be mixed with the sauce. It was okay, pasta was undercooked but that just happens sometimes. I don't know why but towards the end of eating it I got that feeling where if I had portioned any more I would have gagged. Maybe because it was also made with mushrooms and broccoli (not pictures)

Soybeans are higher in protein so they're better for making tofu which is mostly coagulated protein. The only issue with soy is people trying to completely replace animal products with it in their diet, I don't think there's any good reason to be afraid of eating a bit of tofu once in a while.

The old actor Steve Reeves was partially famous for his physique and he ate soy protein every day.
