Growing up I never ate sour cream with my chili because my parents didn't do so either but as an adult, I've got to say that it really enhances my FlavorTown experience! What do you all think, /ck/?

My chili is quite flavorful enough that I don't feel like I need additional toppings that mexicanize it further into some other dish entirely, so though I do like cheese, cilantro, green onions, sour cream, corn chips, a bed of rice or a bed of noodles, etc or whatever else people add on top.

I think about nothing more than oyster crackers or saltines if it needs a bit of something to soak up some juices.

Mostly, I focus on what I am having with it, a simple side of southern cornbread, garlic drop biscuits, or a loaf of quick beer bread, which are my favorite items to make while a batch of chili simmers on the stove.

Adding cheese doesn't do anything. If you only add a little, you can't taste it. If you add enough that you can tell the difference, it's already cheesy goop, not chili.

Cinnamon rolls permanently ruined chili for me. My elementary school served chili with cinnamon rolls, my mom made it that way, my grandma made it that way so I associate chili with a very wrong sweetness. I tried getting into it without a fucking cinnamon roll but the damage was done.

I actually made chili a few days ago, It was kind of odd for me because I usually only make chili in the winter. I also felt like adding sour cream and green onions for whatever reason. I'll be damned if I ever eat it without again.
