Just made and ate mapo tofu
How do you feel about dishes that are so spicy, one of the ingredients is an anesthetic?

I don't eat food that spicy. The most spicy I can handle is serrano pepper. What type of peppers or spices do you use to achieve such a level of HOT

I'd rather just eat anesthetics straight up

Every time I try to use the peppercorns my food is ultra gritty.

Salivated a little bit tbæch
Not to um akshually you too much but the wikipedia article mentions nothing of it being an anaesthetic, but does say it's probably anti-inflammatory
Could be that the sensation competes with the chilli.

Don't use the seeds you idiot. You only want the hulls.

it's not that spicy. szechuan peppercorn isn't an anesthetic. stop being an overdramatic bitch for attention, woman.

It's just szechuan peppers, they're actually not that spicy they just give an odd tingling sensation

wrong and wrong. you are supposed to grind the toasted corns into a fine powder in a mortar or spice grinder. you can also make oil by frying the peppercorns in oil and discarding them afterwards

You're a fucking retard, they don't put an anesthetic in it because it's too spicy.

You're wrong and what I said is correct. You don't want the seeds, they're what makes it gritty. They're also flavorless, the flavor is all in the hull, there's no reason to use the seeds other than being too lazy to sort them out. I never said you're not supposed to grind them, I assumed anon was grinding them anyway, but I've found that even sifting it isn't completely reliable at getting out the bits of seed.

Try the Malaysian/Singaporean or the Japanese version OP.

They replace the ingrediants with ketchup / miso so you get a less spicy version.

mapo tofu is my go-to order whenever I get Chinese. One restaurant I go to makes it with sichuan peppercorns and it makes my mouth tingle whenever I drink water

Are you implying that other restaurants you go to are making it without sichuan peppercorns? What the fuck?
