16029481 No.16029481 [Reply] [Original]

Humans have been modifying the genetics of plants and animals for 12,000 years. It's called agriculture. Grow 100 plants, find the plant which has the biggest most eatable seeds to plant and eat the other 99. Or do you think that Corn or Broccoli grew like that in the wild in the Mesolithic?

Complaining about GM organisms is dumb.

>using selective breeding to eliminate some genes and to promote others
>inserting genes from a completely different classification of life
Totally different. Im not anti GMO at all - indeed, we should be looking at ways we can GM stuff like corals to survive in changing conditions, looking at ways to make hardwoods grow faster etc - but selective breeding and gene insertion are two different things.

>Complaining about GM organisms is dumb.

No, it's not. The corporations that make GM are trying to make as much as profit as possible. That means things like copyrighting seeds. Or making GM plants that removes all the other plants near the area that the GM seeds are used. Like Monsanto. That's not a good route to take. That actually means LESS variation in food.

People have been mixing things to make new things for hundreds of years. That has created more variety.

GM corporations want to use their seeds only because that way they get more money. So that creates LESS variety in the end. That's how capitalism works in the end. It diminishes options and competition in the long run because you can buy away or some other way remove the competition.

So your analogy is shit and you are naive little child. You started the ad hominems, deal with it.

If people want to pay a premium for non-GMO food because they're stupid enough to think it's poison or something, then that's not really a problem for us. It's probably also good to keep some strains of food alive that don't have genes patented by Monsanto or some other greedy corporation, just in case they would attempt to corner the market. GMO and non-GMO food can coexist, and you can benefit as a result.

the problem is the nutritional value it changes... so even tho it's the same price ur paying for, it's worth less than reg......... so they incr prices on reg food products and set the gmo as a lowest price possible. tht way it is not technically stealing bc they don't have food and wont steal from grocers or food banks or from other people...

GMO is fine. I swear the same motherfuckers who complain GMO have no problem with chickens breaking their bones from calcium deficiency due to laying so many eggs and cows having udders so large they cannot walk comfortably but that's OK because they shove rods of semen into them to fertilise them instead of GMO
