Is there even a big difference between Lupark and Kerrygold butter? The latter is 4x the price of Lupark and I dont wanna feel like a dummy choosing an overtly expensive one just because its slightly better.

Will Kerrygold blow me away?

>> No.16024121

yes, there's a reason kerrygold is so expensive.

if you knew anything at all about dairy cows you wouldn't be asking such a stupid question

Id also like to know how the President butter stacks up against these two. My country isnt exactly known for its butter, so Ive never really had good stuff, but when I changed from margarine to the real stuff I was shocked.

Indeed, but I don't know. Thats why I'm asking this question, you meanie.

I haven't had Presidente, but private Selection has an imported French butter that I've tried that is pretty good. LoL European style isn't bad either. Kerrygold is the best one I've had so far but I do want to try Presidente, Suegra and Vital Farms. I think we also have a Vermont one among our higher end butters. I usually try to grab new ones to try when they're on good sales and put them in the freezer until I'm done with the pound (or half pound) I currently am using. I don't even know what lupark is but if kerrygold is 5x the price then I'm guessing a margarine.

Insider info: LoL doesn't care about offending the people that stock their products, just the end customers. She's still on the cases, pic related from last week.

Is lupark even available in america? I've never seen it

Not him but cows and other ruminant animals use grass as their primary food. They're called ruminants because they have a sort of second stomach called a "rumen" which turns grass into protein. Most cows today are fed grass briefly during childhood, but then are switched to a corn based diet since that's cheaper, and on a lot of farms there simply isn't enough grass to keep up with the demand for beef and dairy. However, cows don't digest corn very well. It makes them bloated, gassy, etc, and they don't get the right micronutrients from it. Their feed is injected with nutrient supplements but there's very strong evidence that supplements aren't absorbed very well. This being the case, it's easy to conclude that cows raised on corn are of lesser quality than those raised on grass, since the latter will be healthier and have a richer nutrient profile. I can imagine you'd prefer to eat a healthy cow than a bloated one.
Kerrygold is advertised as being made from grass fed cows. Lurpak is not

I had no idea corn was the prevalent feed for cows. I thought it was 50/50 grass and various seeds. Then there must be a huge difference between kerrygold and most big butter companies. Thank you for the explanation.

Okay but is there any evidence that butter from grass fed cows makes dishes significantly better than butter from corn fed? And by what metrices is that conclusion drawn?

Lurpak and kerrigold is the same level. Maybe kerrigold is imported in us? They're the same price in bongland

I thought Kerrygold was a dumb meme but costco regularly puts them on sale so I snatched one up. Blew me away how rich the butter is. The cheaper brands tasted watered down compared to it.

I don't think it's what everyone else does to their butter it's whatever kerry gold does differently to theirs. It might just be because it's the most available grass fed butter brand

Have you never compared the taste of grassfed and grain/corn-fed butters side by side? If not you should definitely give it a try when you have a few extra dollars laying around, there really is a substantial difference. Butter is one ingredient I will never feel bad about spending the extra money on ever again.

Kerrygold here is just butter, just like every other butter. It's of reasonable quality but it's not particularly exceptional.

Are all european butters from grass fed cows then? I assume many mainstream american butter brands are from grain fed cows since they all have a flat flavor

Here in the Netherlands most dairy cows are on pasture most of the year, about a quarter of their diet are high protein supplements from soy/corn-byproduct/whatever. I assume the same is true for Kerrygold cows.

It's changing though, factory farming is putting more and more cows in stables around the year.
