Yes. One of the teachers was a kind woman who taught us basic, practical cooking skills. Between what I learnt from her and my Nan I have the basic cooking skills that all people should have.

it's called Home Ec and it's compulsory from grade 4 until grade 9 or 10, depending which state.

I had a part-time job as a dishwasher then line cook when I was 13-14. I learned more there than that class could have ever taught me. I think every teenager should have a job in a kitchen. It teaches some extremely valuable skills. Plus, it can be a fun job depending on who you work with.

I was in high school in 2009 while still feeling the effects of the financial crisis.
All of the cool electives got cut and all we had to choose from where fine arts electives like art, band, choir.
After I graduated they started to re-introduce good electives again, felt a little ripped off.

We were designing coffee mugs and she was my assigned partner, I made one for her that said “it’s hard to soar like an eagle when your partner is a turkey”. I was trying to quote Adam Sandler

Took Home Ec from like 15-16. I knew how to cook at 13 from watching cooking shows, and watching my mom, so I didn't learn much as far as stovetop cooking goes.
What I did appreciate is that it gave me an opportunity to find out that I don't like baking. Am fortunate that good breads and pastries are not hard to find nearby.

NO ONE ON THIS BOARD CAN COOK
This place is just for autistic argueing about cast iron, knife sharpening, the correct way to cook a steak and tipping culture. Also everyone here has terrible opionions on these topics (and tipping should be banned).
