I've only eaten at three fast food places this year, one time each.

The best of the three was a chain called "Golden Chick". Second was "Sonic". A distant third was "Dairy Queen".

Dairy Queen was much better before the pandemic. When they reopened, their quality had fallen so far that I see no need to go back.

I don't think I've seen a single one of these maps that wasn't bullshit, no matter the topic. I'm almost convinced it's trolling or wild guesses
For example, I know McDonald's would be more than one state, and that's something that makes us burgers look bad, so I'm not doing damage control here.

Oh, well it's better than most of these state maps I see since they're being honest about their bullshittery with something so aubjective, but it's still misinformation.

Definitely bullshit, but not the most popular fast food company in each state.

On a casual glance, I don't see a single repeat of a chain in two states. Unless the favorite fast food chain in every state is not the favorite fast food chain in another state as well, it cannot be the favorite fast food chain in each state.

What are the odds that there are no two states in the US with the same favorite fast food chain?

Born and raised in ND and I've never seen or heard of "Space Aliens". Don't have any special chains, local cuisine is better than most flyover sloppa and our state makes Dot's Pretzels which are the only thing I've seen from ND in another state. For my town, most people are boomers collecting passive income from mineral rights on their property given the oil boom and farming with the land that isn't being fracked ... it's not a very interesting state.

I have a fond memory of a cross-country family road trip where my sleep-deprived father became obsessed with a sign he saw advertising a "Rib Riot" on our way to our hotel in Bismarck. This was before fancy phone maps, so we must have drove around for another half hour looking for that sign again. Eventually we found the sign, pulled into the parking lot, got seated at this place and my dad smugly says to the waiter, "no need for a menu, we'll be having the ribs".
The place we ended up at didn't even serve ribs.
The "rib riot" was for the Space Aliens a couple doors over.
I can't even remember what we ended up eating there, but the sleep-deprivation high died quickly.

My father went to the Space Aliens later that night after a nap, being the sizeable man he is, and I'll have to take his word for it when he said the ribs were shit.

I was thinking this too but I think sonic has spread out a bit more nationally. Part of what makes braums awesome is that they don't expand further out than where a truck can get to and back in a day from their home farms. So if you live in that lucky radius you'll definitely prefer braums but outside you may not have even heard of them. The one by me is always packed, I make a game of counting cars in line at the drive thru (average is like 18).
