original A1 is ok. I don't put it directly on a steak, though. Just on the side of occasional dipping. Not every bite of steak needs it, but sometimes the flavor is nice.

The thick A1 is disgusting, though. It tastes almost exactly like ketchup.

don't know about A1, but for me HP pairs better with pork chops than with beef. Even then I'm more likely to slice up an onion, fry it in the same pan and deglaze with the onion moisture and a few tbsp of woostuh

No sauce on steak is a meme, and not a particularly good one
Cooking network spread this in the 90's as part of their campaign to convince morons there is always one superior way to cook and serve everything and all other ways are shit
Americans basically stopped eating steak sauce because they were shamed into thinking only dumb people did this
Meanwhile in the French cooking tradition, which everyone claims is superior to all others, steak sauces are standard
French chefs serve steak in pepper sauce, with marchand au vin, béarnaise, whatever
Sauce is fine with steak, and really enhances the leaner cuts that are less juicy
