I'd like to offer a counterpoint: a world where everyone is equal is nothing more than a childish dream.

First of all, moving from our current world to this supposed utopia can only be achieved with a violent revolution with support of most of the people on Earth.
This is because people with power will do whatever they can to keep that power.
But let's assume this revolution works and doesn't leave behind enough damage that drags down humanity's progress for the coming decades.
Now that all the wealth in the world has been distributed, everyone is equal, right?
For a few moments, sure. But then people with ambition start to realize that there is nothing holding them back to form their own group based on a rudamentary form of capitalism.
To prevent that from happening we need a force that keeps people like this in check, but wait, that gives us a paradox.
Giving people the power to keep others in check means an imbalance in power over others.
But let's ignore that and assume a group of benevolent volunteers agree to do this job for free.

Next down the list: natural hierarchies.
Once you release a few humans in an empty room with a few resources, a hierarchy forms.
You can't really stop this, since it's human nature to lead or follow.
And there's paradox number two: people want ro give others power of them so that they have to worry less about everything.
But just like our police force paradox, let's assume we manage to suppress that behaviour and everyone lives, breathes and works together for the good of all.

Third, and arguebly the biggest, problem: there are more people than there are resources to give them a fullfilled life on Earth.
And not only that, the number of people will only grow. Especially once you give everyone the same normal, fullfilled life.
In a world where everyone is equal, this cannot be combatted. Because who are you to say that people cannot have children? You're merely equal than them.
