Why do some people care so much about grill marks? They are literally only an aesthetic aspect. Cooking a steak in a pan that gives it marks like this doesn't mean it's grilled. It's just selectively brown.

Idk but I draw them on with sharpie for my wife’s boyfriend and he loves it

There is a slight taste difference, a bit of charred flavor. But for the most part, yes they are for aesthetics.

What’s good about parallel lines that wouldn’t be better as a consistent sear?

Imagine being this retarded. You're an absolute brainlet if you don't understand that visual appeal contributes to the enjoyment of food.

fuck off boomer. You probably think a single salad leaf crosswise and a couple of baby carrots look classy too

>> No.15987348

Those kinds of griddle pans are only good for grilling vegetables. Unless you're cooking a steak on a real barbecue, grill marks are a meme.
>about half of the surface is pale and flavorless
>the other half is charred black
A uniform brown crust is always miles better

I didn't say black stripes looked good to me. OP asked why people care about grill marks. I explained why. You announced to the board you're fucking stupid. Let me know if you have any questions!

It's Americans that got brainwashed by all the commercials they saw as kids. A good sear is inarguably better in every way.
