Had this exact situation happen to me last week at a normal bar. I was drinking $2 cans of Tecate with a friend and the bartender came over and asked why we weren't tipping for every beer after 3 or 4. The real reason was because I don't think grabbing a can of beer out of the fridge warrants a tip but I told him I was planning to tip at the end since I figured maybe he was hurting for cash, and added on that his service was good.

He then walks really close and angrily says "well that doesn't pay my fucking bills" and silently stared at us until we just downed our remaining beers and left.
