grillo's are really fucking good, i lived with some grocery store employees for a while and they'd always bring home cool stuff with their employee discounts that I would never bothered to try for the price, i remember these pickles particularly. cold pickling yields the best pickles. can't wait to make a bunch this summer

also tl;dr, grillo's are great, vlasic are standard, but just make your own it's so easy and cheap

Claussen, but I make my own. Google "claussen copycat" really it's just water, white vinegar, salt, garlic, mustard seed, paprika, black peppercorns. Extremely delicious after a couple of weeks in the fridge. Can eat them with anything you'd normally eat a pickle with, turn it into relish, or just eat it by itself.

Is it an actual expiration date or just "best by"? That's how they get you to throw out perfectly good food to buy more. I pickle my own vegetables, they last for months until I finish them all, have literally never had any go bad or expire. I made some pickled red onions a couple years ago and still use them bit by bit. I assume this has to do with the amount of vinegar and salt used.

Kosher when referring to pickles mostly means it's done in the style of New York Jewish delis, i.e. brined with lots of dill and garlic and without sugar. (which is found in some other types of American pickles) There are pickles that are certified kosher (i.e. permittable to eat under Jewish dietary laws) that aren't labeled as kosher pickles.

Exactly. ‘Kosher’ in this sense carries the same meaning it does on 4chan. That is, “Kosher=something that is Jewish”. As in “that was a very kosher post you made, Chaim.” It’s a holdover from back in the day when ‘kosher’ was used as slang to refer to things that were identifiably Jewish or inspired by the Jews. People don’t use it like that anymore because it’s now considered antisemitic to ever name the Jew in any capacity, but pickles get a kosher pass for whatever reason.
