What’s the point of spicy food? It doesn’t add any flavour to your food, it only gives you a burning sensation in your mouth. Is it just self inflicted sadism?

alot of the time things that are spicy like Jalapenos, habaneros, cayenne pepper, most chillies all have flavour, you just have to complement them appropriately. a good entry level spice level with got tier flavour is Jalapenos, just make a standard cheese burger and put a couple on it and see how you like it. ide say put some mayo and and a fried egg

I like my food HOT but it burns my mouth. Spicy food feels hotter than they actually are.

Also if your hot sauce doesn't add flavour to your food then your hot sauce fucking sucks.

Spicy things do have flavour. Spicy itself is a sensation rather than a flavour, but spicy things add flavour and sensation to food. What is the point? What is the point to anything? I like spicy food, it livens up things which are otherwise bland and works nicely with things which are otherwise alright already. Extremely spicy is also OK with me, but I've got to be in the mood as it overwhelms everything else that is going on and makes things difficult to eat. The point in extremely spicy is the endorphin rush. Sometimes you want to blow your head off, survive a meal and feel it absolutely overwhelming you.

Scotch bonnet and habanero are my upper limit for everyday spicy. I'd chop a couple of jalapenos and toss them atop a couple of fried eggs for a kick.

It's nice once in while.
I don't really get people who eat super spicy all the time. All that does is make normally seasoned food taste bland.

People who enjoy extremely hot food - to the point where all the flavour is dominated by the burn of capsaicin - are masochists. Often closeted, but still. These are the same people who in the privacy of their bedroom insert milk jugs into their rectum.
