Oysters are fucking great. They're a bitch to shuck though, but boy are they disgustingly good.

>> No.15899169

never ate them
look disgusting
i dont believe you

>> No.15899173

ive never had much of a problem shucking
love them too
maybe you should work on your technique? or get a shucking knife that fits you better

>> No.15899185

>>15899169
I'd suggest trying them once before you die.

>>15899173
I think the problem is the tool I was using. Every one suggests using a shucking knife and opening by the hinge, but all I had was a pairing knife and opened from the opposite end.

You're going to cut your hand badly doing that.

i reccomend getting a shucking knife 1000% they are pretty cheap unless you want a fancy one
i would also recommend getting a shucking block or making one yourself
makes it WAY eaiser, and safer

ive only recently gained a love for mignonette, used to a be a "lemon only" kinda guy, also tried Tabasco, love Tabasco and i can say the flavors do work very well together in a way thats kinda hard to describe, but i will definitely only do tabasco on my last or second to last oyster because the heat lingers and i dont want that on all my oysters

FUCK now i want oysters

i'm fine with oysters as long as I don't have to chew them too much

I thought I was being pretty safe but I have heard horror stories. My uncle stuck a knife clean through his hand once. What's the safest way to transport them? The last batch I brought home were either rancid from the get go or died in the trip.

Oysters are amazing but they are so fucking expensive. I used to think $1 a piece was expensize but more and more I see $30 for 12. I haven't even checked since I moved from Florida to Colorado, I bet it's hopeless.

>> No.15899540

I'm ngai tahu (maori), I grew up between rakiura and bluff in the south island of New zealand. I ate so many muttonbirds, oysters, cod in my life.

I can assure you, oysters are peasant food and a meme. People pretend to like them but in reality they are bottom feeder scum only fit for slave pokus and pakeha wallets. The whole industry is a scam. Sell scum dweller shellfish to rich whites and chinks and make bank, that's all it is.

Worst part is that mussels are better but they sell for like 5 dollars a kilo, yet oysters are 30 dollars for 12? It's a fucjing scam.

They said that about lobster two hundred years ago, too. I don't buy it.

Mussels are fine, but better? No way. The only thing better about them is that they're more fun to pry out of the shell.

"shucking knives" are garbage and 99% of the morons that try to use them end up cutting themselves. Use a flathead screwdriver.

>> No.15900570

>>15899611
that's because they used to grind up lobster and serve it that way. you'd have to pick the shells out. that's why it was considered inmate food.

>> No.15900769

"As I ate the oysters with their strong taste of the sea and their faint metallic taste that the cold white wine washed away, leaving only the sea taste and the succulent texture, and as I drank their cold liquid from each shell and washed it down with the crisp taste of the wine, I lost the empty feeling and began to be happy and to make plans"

New England oysters are better though.
And they're cheaper, pic related.

Try Island Creek Oysters or Wellfleet Shellfish Company from Massachusetts
