"The best thing since sliced bread" as an idiom really doesn't make sense. Sliced bread isn't that good since you can't self portion and it's guaranteed to get moldy and go stale quicker than a regular loaf because of the greater exposure to air
How did boomers fall for this meme?

yeah I never ask for sliced bread at my local bakery, it'll just dry out faster. I can take the extra 5 seconds while making a snadwich
maybe sliced bread works better for the mass-produced factory shit with all the preservatives

Sliced bread is considered a great commercial success, particularly for the plastics and food preservative industries.

Sliced bread is a modest success in terms of consumer convenience.

A loaf without preservatives will in fact stale and mold quicker than a preservative filled dough conditioned loaf of presliced.

People who work for a living (boomers) don't have time to autistically obsess over the minutae of every single thing that crosses their path (non-boomers). In this case pre-sliced is a clear winner.

I thought sliced bread was referring to literal sliced bread though, and not just presliced stuff you buy at stores? That's how I always thought of it at least

Have you ever sliced bread anon? Back before presliced bread the women and weaker men of the household would spend up to 80% of their day slicing bread

>Sliced bread isn't that good
You are understating the matter. Sliced bread is horrific and a step backwards in breadmaking. You have to pump it full of preservatives to avoid it going bad, and it always always tastes like shit.

>Sliced bread is a loaf of bread that has been sliced with a machine and packaged for convenience. It was first sold in 1928, advertised as "the greatest forward step in the baking industry since bread was wrapped". This led to the popular idiom "greatest thing since sliced bread".
