Bourbon is primarily sweet, with notes of oak, char, and sometimes spice.
Scotch is less sweet, is often smoky and has a much wider variety of flavors and styles compared to bourbon.
>Also, how should I drink whiskey?
For good whiskey, take very small sips of it straight/neat, not chilled, and roll it around your tongue for several seconds before swallowing it to fully appreciate it.
For shitty whiskey, just don't drink it in the first place.
If you want mixing booze just buy $10 handles of vodka and be done with it.

Of these, BT is the "smoothest" and OGD is the most flavorful. BT isn't really my favorite because I prefer high rye bourbons but I acknowledge it as a great option in its price range for those who prefer a gentler, softer bourbon.

Whisky from Scotland is called scotch. Any nice bottle of scotch is made entirely with malted barley as the only grain used. There's a huge range of flavors, from floral and fruity to deeply smokey and meaty

Bourbon is a whiskey made in America, using corn as the main grain but also mixed with rye, barley, and sometimes wheat to give different flavor profiles. Unlike scotch, it's aged in brand new oak barrels (scotch is typically aged in used barrels, often used bourbon barrels), so it has a very intense oaky taste, usually with flavors of caramel, honey, baking spices, cocoa, dark fruits, and/or leather.

Drink it however you want, but the best way to experience nicer whiskeys is to drink it straight. Your tongue will get used to it.

Whisky stones are a joke, they make your whisky taste minerally, they chip your glasses, they take forever to cool anything, and whisky doesn't taste better cold.
If you're going for some sort of aesthetic get a proper whisky glass, or get a giant spherical ice mould (which will also melt slowly, and therefore cool slowly). If you actually want the temperature to be lower then put the whole bottle in the freezer.

Glenmorangie is certainly as neutral as it gets, but you'd be better off just starting with Glenlivet etc so you don't actually get people buying in on the blandest whisky out there.

Go left into more oak to get a not very oaky whisky. Then carry on get your choice of other not very oaky whiskies.
More fruit? better avoid the sherried whisky on the left and get into over priced Dalmore or an unusual Glenfiddich bottling.
And then actual shit talking instead of directionality for peated whisky.

they were clear out of Rare Breed, so I went to a small shop and they had this for only $10 more. I feel like its more impressive on just the neck pour than RB would be. sorta surprised it wasnt closer to $70 honestly considering its age and proof.
Lots of spicy charred oak, cherry, milk chocolate, orange and clove. Like a Old Grand Dad 114 without the rye and nut notes. Finish is still kinda dry but with that marshmallow sweetness. Its smooth enough it sip without water, but it does bring a little vanilla and brown sugar out.

It's above the price level of cheap standard whiskeys (15 - 25 $ range) and is distributed in green-glass bottles.
I was just wondering why they would color it even though it takes away from the purity and tradition, which is wanted by many whiskey drinkers.

The mid-tier JW's like gold and green solely exist to exploit Decoy effect. Always beware of "mid-tier" anything, but especially in the wine and spirits world. They are designed for people who balk at the price of Blue, so that they look like relatively good deals.
IMO red and black are decent values, barring all shilling. But for the ~$60+ you probably paid, you could have so many good single malt options. Or you could've just gotten a cheap but decent blend like Monkey Shoulder or JW black for literally half the price.

Not necessarily.
If it's Bourbon you did something wrong.
If it's sherry finished you did something wrong.
But a gentle ex bourbon barrel is a valid choice if you intend on maintaining the character of the spirit, especially over a long time, or if you're going for a peat only character.

Ardbeg 10 not being Uggideail isn't a flaw. Neither is Laphroaig 10 not being Quarter Cask.
Look at aged Speysides like Glenlivet 18, assuredly coloured and probably pale, and tell me they lack oakiness or fruitiness.

Despite /ck/s attempts at forming a consensus on whisky, it is a doomed endeavour.
The price of whisky is not stable across markets (including US states). It's not just a matter of me subtracting your tax and adding my tax, our prices don't correlate at all.

Here it's pretty much as you say.
But as I've heard from many anons, elsewhere Green is notably cheaper than entry level single malts like Glenfiddich 12.

you should occasionally invert the bottle for about 10 seconds, once or twice. if its high proof and got a real cork use your thumb or finger so that you dont exposed it to the alcohol so much to where it starts to deteriorate. sometimes the oils can start to separate from the juice and you can get big variations in pours ke that. usually all it takes is air and time though.

1995 Lagavulin apparently.
Compass Box Spice Tree used to be made by throwing a European oak stave in the barrel for its maturation, which was swiftly banned (fair enough imo, it is a little close to woodchip aging). Now they have a 'hybrid cask' which I assume means that they've substituted an American oak stave for a European one, or they've rigged something up that holds the once loose stave in place.
