This is an emergency ration, commonly found on life rafts and the like.

They're fucking awesome in that they have a shelf life of 20 years, and provide you with a day's worth of calories and vitamins in a compact 500g package. Apart from that, they absolutely suck; they taste like slightly vanilla sawdust, are insanely dry, and leave a layer of starch in the top of your mouth when eaten. You can add hot water to make a sort of gruel from them, but that doesn't improve the taste, nor does it remove the effect of the starch layer in your mouth.

How would you improve on something like this with 1-2 long shelf life ingredients? I've tried bouillon cubes with moderate success, and chocolate with less success.

It's survival food, it's not meant to taste good it's meant to keep you from dying. If you're choosing to eat this for the hell of it you're a fucking retard.

>It's survival food
It's also fantastic trekking food due to its weight and size, hence why I wanna improve upon it.

Oh yeah, I also tried that.

In terms of success, bouillon cubes > hot sauce > chocolate.

Just get some beef jerky and trail mix. Or some mountain house freeze dried stuff.

erbswurst? I don't know if it rivals that stuff in cal/g or shelf life, but it might be tastier

Just get some shortbread cookies. Taste a hell of a lot better, give just as many if not more calories and carbs. If it's for hiking you don't need it to have a fucking 20 year shelf life.

I hate this kind of naming. Would avoid buying based on this alone.

It says it's made mostly out of wheat, so my first idea would be could you turn it into a flatbread by mashing it up with water & salt to form a dough and cook it on a frypan?
My next idea would be using milk, or milk powder + water, adding ice and fruit like a banana or strawberries and trying to turn it into a milkshake if you have access to a blender?
Maybe instant coffee & chocolate could turn it into something palatable as a hot drink?

Theoretically you could take a 3600 calorie bar and split it over 3 days, 3 meals of 400 calories but it wouldn't be very filling and it is also extremely carbohydrate dense.

>>15846155
There are lemon/cinnamon versions of this, 3600 calories per bar you might have better luck finding complimentary instant beverages with a base flavor.

You might wanna try cucumbers and radishes instead. Pretty sure you can't get fat off of those even if you try

It won't help with your hunger cravings. You'll have to hold on for two weeks before your body adjusts. After that then yeah probably
