>> No.15843304

Heres 3 finnish dishes worth a try:

>Poronkäristys
sauteed reindeer served with potato mash (made with lapin puikula potatoes) and cranberry jam
Enjoyable high protein meal. Reindeer is similar to elk in taste.

>lohikeitto
Salmon soup with potatoes and some root vegetables.
Normally enrichened with milk but use heavy cream for weddings or similar situations.
Serve with a side of rye bread

>Mustikkapiirakka
Blueberry pie with a soft crust with the filling being blueberries and more modernly creme fraiche or sour cream, egg and sugar.

These are my 3 personal favourites

It's actually a thick soup made from elk and it's liver and heart etc. Also the blood is first mixed with rye flour and refrigerated to form a sort of dough, then shaped into small clumps and added to the soup.
And of course it has the typical soup veggies like potatoes, carrots, turnip, swede, etc.
Very hearty and tasty.

Iceland is based. The food is excellent as well. You have tons of different flavors of skyr, world class hot dogs and fish and chips (protip: Issi fish and chips next to Keflavik airport is absolutely excellent, ate there twice) and Icelandic lamb is the best lamb on the planet. It's a sticky wicket. The car-wreckers we call moose are called elk in most of Europe, and what we call elk are more like big deer... I mean maybe if people stopped posting shitty and fat ladden versions of rhe full English and if they stopped going on about those weird ass hangover foods you have like that potato lefotver mush sandwich thing...

No one talks about good English shit like Stilton cheese or clotted cream or... I mean I'm not British, but they don't mention more then the only things I know to be worthwhile British food either, and you'd think there'd be more from the homeland of a former fucking empire that traded ruling cultures' hands so many times, even from other parts of Northern Europe like what the fuck.

Anyway, the problem isn't compliments, its that none of you post anything good.

I've seen hangover bar sludge. I've seen sausage and potatos that people only post because you happen to call them "bangers and mash".
And thats it.

Some of your food also just seems ordinary, presumably I think because thats what a lot of everyone else's cuisine is based on. Like for some reason your most famous dish is just fish and chips.
I dont even have to change the phrasing, because we use the British terminology to name rhe meal. Thats how weirdly famous Britbong fish and chips are.

I don't really know why either... I mean, how good can fries be? How good or different can fish be?
But you clearlt have some shit you're not letting on about.

So is caribou and reindeer the same species? I've had caribou once in my life and it just tasted like rancid mossy fat. It was worse than bear.
Moose is okay, when I was in my early teens it was more or less the only protein I ate after my grandpa shot one and ended up with 900lbs of meat.
What do the finnish people eat when they watch their bizarro world version of baseball?

It is divine. Better than the sum of its parts, with plenty of dill. It just won't taste the same as with the old women of legend as cooks or with modern ingredients, but hey, it's still divine.

The karjalanpiirakka look way too dark. The ingredients look vaguely Finnish, but the plate doesn't.

What is that? Mushrooms, karelian pies and rosolli? I've never seen anyone serving a meal like that in here. Rosolli is basically Christmas food.

Potatoes, swedes, turnips, carrots, whatever veggies you want to use.
Moose meat and heart and liver and sometimes kidneys.
Moose blood and rye flour dough made the day before, prepared into smallish pieces and put in last.
And like most soups and stews, it's even better the next day. The rye really thickens it and all the good tastes spread and soak into the veggies and the dough thingies.

Nothing, or sausages. Just a grilled sausage with mustard and sometimes other garnishes like onion or pickles. Now that I think of it, we don't really snack in such events. Also fries and sausages.
