Anon, accountability systems like timeclocks are extremely common in lots of businesses: restaurants, grocery stores, offices, etc. both to ensure employees are getting paid for the hours they work and aren't skipping work or showing up late. Nowadays, modern systems use RF fobs, hand/fingerprint scans, etc. but plenty still use paper cards like pic related.

Personally, I work in construction for a small company, and we just use the honour system when sending our hours in to the office every week. Larger contractors and companies with a lot of employees prefer to use digital timeclocks which collect and record when employees show up and leave the site each day, then transmit that data back to the foreman or office.
