I have had the Coffey Grain and I currently have a Nikka from the barrel. Both are very good. The barrel is slightly smoky, a little strong in terms of ABV, and with a heavy sweet flavour. Heavy peat isn't as good for prolonged drinking but it's incredible in short bursts. I'll usually drink bourbon for a while, then at the end pour a dram of Laphroaig to finish the night off. If you drink too much, the smoke catches up with you and saturates the tongue too much.

With that said, most scotch is not peaty at all. Bourbon is more overbearing than most scotch. Something like Glenmorangie or Glenlivet is very easy to drink.

Genuine question as an al/ck/, do non alcoholics REALLY think different spirits taste different enough to warrant spending money on more expensive brands? It's so subtle that it's almost non existent, in addition if you drink a couple the taste muddles into nothing.

I've never had Lidl Whiskey so I can't compare that specific example, but even at similar price points, Buffalo Trace and Wild Turkey 101 taste significantly different. Both taste different from Woodford Reserve, which tastes different from Jefferson's or Four Roses.

You might think "it's all just ethanol aged in an oak barrel" but aside from different periods of aging and different levels of charring on the barrels, think of the different mixture of grains used. Wheat, corn, barley, and rye taste wildly different, both as food and as liquor. You could take the same distillery, same kind of barrel, age them side by side for the same amount of time, and anyone could taste the difference between a wheated version and a high rye version. Separate the high rye version into 2 barrels, bottle one at 5 years and the other at 10 years and anyone could tell the difference in taste.

Not everything is a meme you stupid sack of shit. Stop calling everything a meme. YOUR a fucking meme. If you ever said that to somebody in real life they would never speak to you ever again.

>> No.15797157

See, the thing with alcohol-water solutions is there's a middle ground between too diluted and too concentrated since there is a sweet spot (or better said, a sweet range) of ABV for all the flavors to come into their own. If you had spoken to people that are involved in the process of distillation and if you weren't an overall brainlet, you wouldn't feel so irate about this piece of information.
Also:
>"a more pure product"
You literally fell for all the marketing memes and now you're projecting your self-loathing onto others like the sad little r/scotch fanboy you are.

coming back to this, it's some really great stuff.
This is the bourbon I'd imagine non drinkers think of when they think of "expensive whiskey"
its incredibly rich with flavor, it's sweet and oaky and has a nice spicy finish to hide the alcohol.
