In Scandinavia we eat 50% pork 50% beef or 60%/40% ground meat.

But when Americans seem to consume ground meat they always just use ground beef.

There is no pork around? What is USA opinion on that?

every grocery store in my city sells ground pork, as well as ground turkey and ground chicken.

ground pork is mostly used to make sausage

>> No.15724934

The mix is usually marketed as “meatball mix” and hardly anybody consumes it by itself.

Ground pork and ground poultry can be found in pretty much every American grocery store. Beef is definitely most popular. Plain ground meat is almost never blended unless also with spices, in which case then it's called sausage (minus the fun penis shape).

burgerland has enormous swathes of pastures for cattle so beef is cheap there
pork in ground beef is a cost saving measure which is unnecessary there

personally I'm a big fan of ground lamb as it's half the price of beef but much better than pork

There is a german butcher shop in the city I live in that sells patties made with half beef, half pork and calls them frikadellen. Tried it once, not a fan. Good for meatballs but otherwise I prefer all beef.

It’s a wonderful mix for great meatballs.

Meatloaf mix is usually combo of pork and beef and sometimes veal. Sold in the meat aisle.

I use this mix when I make chili or a bolognese but I do have to buy them separately.

I hate cooking with ground pork desu, it seems to be totally devoid of fat when compared to ground beef and fries weirdly

Kidney Beans, no veggies this time. Using cumin, caraway and oregano to spice it up other than chili, salt and pepper

This is sold in every grocery store I've ever been to and is popular as a meatloaf mix. There's commonly a 1/3rd beef, 1/3rd pork and 1/3rd veal (yes I know it's also beef but it may as well not be) for sale also.

Where do you live that Lamb is cheaper than beef? I pay almost 10/pound for lamb and like 3/pound for ground beef.

For meatloaves, meatballs, and many other dishes, we use a Blend of pork and beef as well.

50-50 is a go-to for meatballs or something.

Americans generally prefer not to eat any gamey meats unless it’s in something like sausage where it’s heavily seasoned. And beef is relatively cheap

burger her, I actually use bison because I don't it that much so cost isn't an issue and I like the taste better. It's probably a little healthier too.
I avoid pork aside from bacon, don't really like it.
People bitch about how bland turkey burgers are but you just have to season them and not cook them as long as you would a burger and they are juicy af.

yah i don't recall every seeing ground pork, we really only have ground beef, and then maybe chicken or turkey

beef is heavily subsidized by our government, so it is preternaturally cheap where other places might use pork as a filler-meat. Pork-and-beef-blends are actually not unheard of, many prepacked sausages and meatballs, etc. are blended. but that's less common in homemade dishes because, why go to the effort for no benefit.

I love a good burger with a 50/50 beef pork mix. My local Smith's have started selling it blended which is nice so I don't have to do it myself but if I can get ground lamb it's always my go to. In the summer when I'm swarmed with free trout and salmon I'll pull out my grinder and make some sausages or salmon burgers since they have a nice amount of fat
