I didn't know that cedar and redwood had those properties until I had to repair a section of my fence and discovered that all the fenceboards at the hardware store were cedar or redwood. I found previous owner used douglas fir to repair the same section in the past instead of cedar (like the rest of the fence) which is why it rotted to hell while the rest of the (original) cedar sections are totally fine.

Don't use nylon-plastic utensils, use silicone. it's the best. I love the feel of a nice metal utensil but by this point I have had them completely replaced from my kitchen.
