Somebody here recommended pissaldiere as a good use of anchovies and I've made several since.
They're also good on a flatbread with tomato paste and melted mozzarella, topped with red onion, avocado, and spinach. Pretty tasty dinner.

It really isn't. There are plenty of people who prefer the firmer texture of saury to the little brislings, and the tomato sauce is pretty good.
Given that Ligo is 89 to 99 cents a can near me, I don't feel it's bad value, even if I wouldn't buy it at $4/can.

mwPolar smoked brislings in oil. Round can, clear top. They should be on your list, but I prefer a simpler deen for daily enjoyment. They're a once in a while kind of deen.
I like ovalcan, but they're not for everyone. Very saucy. mwPolar or la Sirena should be safe. 7.5oz is a safe individual serving, 15oz is really for 2 or 3. Pull the fish out, set aside, toss sauce with some cooked long pasta, plate fish artfully on the pasta.
We did decide that kipper snacks are deenz, right?
mwPolar kipper snacks is a little too intense for my taste. Crown Prince, KO, Brunswick kipper snacks are all generally ok, in that order of preference.
Of course there's the Beach Cliff/Bumble Bee (BB)/Chicken of the Sea (CotS) tier stuff. I put Titus in with these. Not awful, wouldn't outright refuse, but no reason to specially seek these out; I'd expect these all to be under $1.50/can.
Plenty of interesting varieties in the ethnic aisle/store. These usually go better with rice than crackers or bread. Ligo falls in here.
I expect a lot of the mediterranean ones to be suitable as salad garnishes - salade niçoise, pan bagnat, etc. Not my thing, so fuck if I bother to try them.
Sauced - cruel to lump them all together, but aside from tomato sauce (general purpose), mustard & hot sauce deenz are really sandwich filling. If you're going to mash it up with a hard boiled egg, lean toward the cheaper side - the more expensive ones have a firmer texture and don't mash as well. Really depends on if you lay them on the bread, or mash & smear. BC/BB/CotS do have a place.

but i personally grew up not exposed them, didn't like them (nor most pickled foods, olives, etc) when first introduced, but grew into liking them only when a lot older

Variety is the spice of life.
KO is good, above average.
Being unable to enjoy a simpler deenz only hurts yourself.
I have a fair stack of KO, but I also enjoy lesser deenz and figuring out what to put them with for best enjoyment.

Steak is good, but so is roast beef, and so is a hamburger.
Are you really going to deny yourself the simple joy of a hamburger just because you had a good ribeye once?

How do these rank on the deen scale? I think they were about 2 bucks a can at my local grocery store, and their canned salmonaand tuna was better than what other brands were available so this was the first brand I tried. The umami aftertaste of deenz is almost better than the initial bite, I'm hooked.
