I wouldn't care if someone ate pizza with chopsticks, for example, so why would people who eat with their hands care if I use cutlery?

I dont think it would be rude. My ex's mom ate with her hands and there was no issue when I asked for utensils. However I did (jokingly) give that same ex some shit when we went out for pizza and she picked up a knife and fork to cut it. Protip in some parts of mexico people don't use forks at all, they grab every bite with a piece of tortilla, you may ask for a utensil and it's seen as a more refined way of eating, like "ooh what a fancy fag, must have some money", you'll actually make them feel ashamed and some will use utensils when eating with you, happened to me the day I meet my wife's family.
