Do these things actually do anything?

>> No.15651269

We should just arrange a time when all the people with this question will come post in the same thread together and we can finally get it settled. It seems like you guys just keep missing each other by a couple hours, so a new thread with this topic keeps being made after the old one dies.

But the answer is no, they don't do anything

Yes they add flavor to soups and stews when cooked in a broth, but they don’t break down and stay hard so they must be removed before serving.

Fresh ones do

Its been proven that it doesn’t. It’s indistinguishable from a dish with or without it. Any “subtlety” is primarily a placebo.

If people can’t tell whether or not you included a bay leaf then it’s an unnecessary ingredient.

Not my fault if you're a complete tastelet, it's blindingly obvious to me

I can tell if it's in there or not. Maybe you should all get tested for 'rona

You can think of a similar approach with 75% of all threads in any board, repetition and regurgitation of the same shit is at the core of this site

>>15652617
not him but i kinda got tired of this at some point and just made a simple infusion of 3-4 of these in ~half a liter of boiling water, and it barely had a bit of extra taste, a faint grassy (refreshing), bit peppery taste
it was so faint that i can't imagine it coming though in any of the dishes that asks for a leaf or two to be added
i only have access to the seemingly crappy dried stuff, i can imagine if you get them fresh it's a different story, but with what i gave access to there's no real point for me to add them in a dish
it's an easy test that you can do for yourself, maybe I'm just a tastelet or w/e

Don't just drink the water, dummy. That's not how taste works. Try boiling some carrots in the water instead. If your bay isn't two decades old, they'll taste completely different.

Good, fresh ones do. The dried out pieces of shit you've had sitting in your cupboard for 3 years do not.

If you eat one whole you'll become immensely constipated.
