I always see this big cut if roast meat with bone sticking out in anime. Is it based on any real food or is it just a cartoon thing? It's looks so tasty.

In terms of bones and musculature, it looks most like a thigh bone, but it's heavily stylized, it probably used to look more like a ham, and just became generic over time

it's usually cut laterally like a beef shank but if you order it in advance i'm sure your butcher could have it ready

Sadly no, someone in a "fantasy food you wanna' eat" thread a while ago explained it originated with a 60s-70s prehistoric comic as "mammoth meat" where it caught on and eventually evolved to "manga meat." Image-specific recreations involve packing mince around a stick and then using a bacon wrapper to simulate skin while the closest real equivalent would be a giant fucking shank cut braised slow-and-low until it's tender enough to tear off by tooth alone.

It's obviously a roast shank or thigh, did nobody have lamb growing up? It's plenty tender to eat off the bone, when roasted.
