yes but you have to know where to look.
I live in a small town but it has a homemade sherbet shop, they change the flavor every week and it's top notch stuff. they do sell in some of the local supermarkets but it's unlikely you are close by. millers creamery is the company. if you want to see what your missing. it looks like they only sell caramel corn on their web store

soup: unthickened and clear, but uses fat to darken/precook veggies
stew: thickened with starch (flour) and fat from meats already in pan/pot
gumbo: thickened with dark roux (made before meat reaches pan)
jambalaya: thickened with dark roux and rice (made before jambalaya)
Curry: thickened with tomatoes or cashews, and with spices toasted in ghee (or all three)
chili: thickened with grease, gravy made from meats, the meat itself, and beans. Or no beans if that's your thing.
chowder: thickened with cream.

Not the same anon, but I thought this was a really hard list to made. I don't think I'm right though.

jam: made primarily with fruit juices and fruit pieces, thickened with gelatin or amolopectin (don't know how to spell), fruit pieces, and sugar
jelly: made entirely of fruit juices and thickened with gelatin or amolopectin and extra sugar
Preserves: made entirely from real fruit pieces, very chunky and sticky in texture/feel due to natural thickeners in fruit
marmalades: made from the skins of fruits (typically citrus) and thickened with a lot of extra sugar and the natural amylopectin found in the white part under the skins
Chutney: it's not the same as the rest. I've never made chutney. I presume it's thickened with oils, is made from fresh spices like cilantro or mint, and includes salt unlike the rest.

This one was fun. I've made marmalade and have had thorough debates with family on what makes each one different. Give me another set :D

I just searched up chutney and realized I was mistaken on the dish. Chutney is ground/blended fruits that have been cooked in a pot and allowed to develop color

biscuit: sugarless and mostly flour cut with butter, they are rolled out and folded on itself to make those fantastic flakes. If you're bri'ish, a biscuit is a cookie and a
cookie: is a 'bread' made from sugar, creamed into butter, mixed with an egg, and then stirred with flour. It requires no folding, kneading, or rolling.
rolls: are sweetened breads (yeasted) that use fat, like lard, as a vehicle for smoothness rather than for a creamy texture when bitten into. Rolls sometimes have spices spread on them before the titular rolling phase to further cement their place as a sweetened bread/desert i.e. cinnamon rolls
cakes: cakes are different in that they require leveners to be as airy as they are, rather than a creaming or rising stage. Common ones include whipped egg whites and baking powder or soda.

DIP: typically made with a dairy product, cheese or sour cream, a dip is unique because it can be chunky or smooth. There are no real regulations on a 'dip' since everything below this is a 'dip'
PASTE: a thick pureé, pastes (or patés) necessitate and extremely well mixed end-product. Hummus, for example, is best made in a pro blender because it removes any lumps and thus any sembalance of a chickpea all while having that signature taste
SPREAD: similar to a dip, but differing in that it doesn't require a dairy product. A spread can be made from cheese or fruit or veggies. However, cheese spreads are the most common kind of spread
SAUCE: a sauce is a thin jùs made from starch, fat, and water. It's not really a sauce if it's not made in a pan. Gravy is a good example. If you're thinking fruit sauce, that's just a heavily cooked down version of a fruit. Apple sauce is the iconic fruit sauce
ICING: icing is sugar. Technically it's powdered sugar mixed with a little bit of milk until it's spreadable. However, icing is not a spread because it has no distinct flavor characteristics.

>>15645583
Marinade: technically a glaze but it's shorter and more concentrated in flavor. Typically used with weaker meats like chicken, a marinade like chimichurri can be eaten raw and with the meat at hand
Brine: a water and salt solution, a brine goes from 8-72 hours to deeply penetrate a cut of meat. The usual brine is a 2% salt solution. Peppercorns can be added to enhance flavor
Cure: similar to a brine but it goes deeper on the salt and acidity. This is usually used on tough meats like pork to remove any parasites or potentially nasty flavors found in wild hog
Glaze: much like a marinade, glaze is short and concentrated. Unlike marinades, they go directly on the meat with no excess and then directly to the cooking surface. Glazed like BBQ are made from fats rendered out from meats and a lot of spices instead of slat and water
Rub: a purely spice marinade, a rub is made from brown sugar, cinnamon, and whatever other spice you like. A rub can be left on a piece of meat to further marinate a piece of meat, or it can be a quick thing to make a good glaze.

Almost got me on this one.

Pie: a pre-crusted dessert. The crust is essential in getting that classic pie crumb, while the filling can be anything from creme to fruits, but never really anything savory. Pierogi's are not pies.
Tart: as the name implies, it's less sweet than a pie. It is also smaller than a pie, and just as versatile.
Quiche: this one is not a pie, since it does not require a crust, but it does develop one in the pan. Quiche are mainly egg based, and have a veggies and meats as fillings.
Flan: this one is more of a cold vanilla custard with an iconic caramel topping. Flan is made top down then flipped out onto a serving dish, unlike the previous three which can be left in the dish or just slid out. Flan can be creamy or slightly curdled in texture
Pudding: unlike the rest, pudding does not retain the shape of its container when flipped out. Instead, pudding is more of a gel flavored with rice, chocolate, vanilla, and a few other dessert flavors.

Yeah, it's been fun. Maybe we can make this a thread where retards scream at each other about their differences. Anyways,
Pastry: a flour based dessert, often times pastries are airy and light or flaky and powdered, or all 4 of those things. Croissant is the archetypal pastry
Confection: a generalist term referring to the act of decoration. Confections can be pastries, but confections are elaborately decorated with a platitude of things
Candy: a sugar based dessert, candy can range from caramels to chocolates to marshmallows to sours to hards. Candies are only fruit based, since there are no vegetable candies.
